Hi, this is my first post. The game works fine until a most of the time until a certain point when I go to the menu screen. Once in awhile the mouse icon stops moving. Yet I can see the windows plain white mouse moving over the screen. The music stops, yet the game is still covering the screen. I can click on certain spots towards the top of the screen to get the music back and cause the windows mouse to disappear. Yet the game version of the mouse symbol does not move. If I click towards the bottom of the screen and the music and mouse reverts back.

My theories are that it is some window popping up behind the game. I can’t minimize the screen though. I have a fire wall that also pops up messages when I am already in the game. Perhaps it is this? Regardless I just need help to fix it.

First of all, welcome to the ORG. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-smile.gif

Now let's see if I can be of any help;

Try turning off all background programs, including the firewall if you're not playing online. Does it help?

Check if your display drivers are up to date and work properly. Then check your sound drivers and finally the mouse drivers...

Is your Windows stable? Do you get any erors out of MTW?

I can't think about anything else at this time.

Welcome to the Org Insigna.

Another problem can be that autorun is trying to launch MTW, that you´re already playing. Disable it or remove the MTW CD from your CD-player.
Similar problems, that you describe, can also be experienced if you have a CD-burner that is malfunctioning. Disable/ remove it via right-clicking your computer icon on the desktop and choose properties then find you burner and remove it. Windows will restore it when you restart your PC so don´t worry.
