View Full Version : Reinforcements in MI

I have a new computer now and am going to install good old Shogun. Just started playing MTW and miss Japan. MTW makes me kinda want to go get MI and VI though. I want to have the full spectrum experience before ROME.
My question is this, am I recalling correctly that in MI there was a change to where defending reinforcements appear? Mainly from any edge of the map, even behind you? I am thinking maybe I'll have two installs of Shogun, one old one without this and one new one with MI added. Unless of course there is some other way around this odd design choice, or I am wrong.
Thanks in advance for anyone willing to answer this question.

I'm thinking I may not have been perfectly clear here. I am referring to the reinforcements that come on for the defender when you (the player) are the attacker.
Anybody? I'm sure people rememeber which way it is. I know MTW has captured players imagination now, but I am just curious what I should expect when I grab MI.

http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif Hello Poison Arrow. If you get all 4 going at once, you'll have one fine dilemma on your hands. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-juggle.gif Which do I play today? Some dilemma. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif
You are correct in your recollection about MI. Reinforcements can come on from almost anywhere - usually in the worst position for you. I remember some bug reports in which reinforcements came on in a river and got stuck. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-oops.gif It was a nice attempt to prevent a player from camping at the single entrance point and defeating the reinforcements one by one as they entered the battle. What I don't recall is if the patch fixed this so that the reinforcements will only enter on your side of the battlefield. Maybe someone else will recall.
I played an MI campaign just a few weeks ago and had a blast with it. Twas fun revisiting an old friend.

I found that the closer to the edge of the map I place the re-assembly flag the higher chance of getting them from that direction where the flag is.
In STW and MI I remember them comming from all directions witch was really annoying.
It would be more realistic for the reinforcements to enter the map when you hit the withdraw button. The withdrawing unit will then becom a non-hit-target.

The patch did fix the reinforcements so that now they only come in from your half of the map.

So you are saying with the WE or MI patch, your reinforcements come from your half of the map, and the defenders come from their half? Just making sure we are on the same page.
Course I'm gonna buy it anyway, so..... I guess I'll find out one way or the other. Heh, and of course I'll get the patch. Thanks everyone for responding.

You understand it right Poison. The MI/WE patch changed reinforcements so they only come in on your half of the map. I thought that was the case, but wasn't sure enough to risk leading you astray. Thanks for the confirmation Shinano. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-thumbsup.gif
