I just had to post this, I just got the game a little bit ago and so far I love it. I'm still trying to get the hang of this strategy thing too. I'm playing on easy and I'm autoing the battles I don't have ideas for and I control ones that need my grand ideas. :P
My last battle was sweet, the enemy had about 1600 units in a province and I noticed most of them were archers. So I gathered up 850 something troops that were all melee and stormed them in a blizzard. It was awesome because not only did I bypass about 900 archers I crossed one of those maps with just 1 little bridge with my strategy. Anyways I'm just happy I bought this game and wanted to say hi to everyone!
Well done!
Remember this: the tide of battle is just that... a tide.
When a wave crashes into the beach, it smashes all it comes into contact with. But then, the beach pushes the water back, and it recedes back into the sea.
Which, then, was victorious? Was it the water for all the damage it did, or the land, for it was not conquered?
Water slowly erodes the land away with time. But new land is created constantly to take the place of that lost to the sea.
So again, who wins?
Your victory was great. But you will soon find that when you advance deep into the bossom of your enemy, there will come a time when your strength is drained and he pushes you back to whence you came from.
'Tis one battle in a long war. Time will tell if your strategy will unite Japan... or nail your coffin shut.

Welcome, and hello:
I agree w/ Vanya kensai-- the tide of battle must not be ignored. As you notice the tide beginning to shift against you, regroup, recouperate, and redeploy. Do not try to face a Tsunami head on...attack only when the beach begins to push it back. In this way you will be assured of victory.

Welcome friend and congratulations on a fine victory. You will also encounter defeat along your path of wisdom, but the mark of a truly great general is he who learns from defeat. For the moment though rejoice in your victory and remember ....always carry plenty of sacks for collecting ears of enemy. ( bows deeply )...........Orda

Good show!
Good call on bringing out your sword slingers when his arrows could not do you harm.
