I personally loved the ninja cut-scenes, they gave STW a
real authentic feel and flavor.
I was wondering if anyone else missed the small episodes
in MTW?
I know MTW did not lead into videos the way STW did (with
the ninja and all), but I feel RTW could have some space
for such events, and different occurrences...

What are your thoughts?

My apologies I didn't realize the topic name
was the poll question.

The question is:

Should videos be included in RTW?

Thanks again

I know a lot of the old shoggie fans like myself missed the videos when medieval came to power, and id love to see them make a return in rome. But with the option to turn them off.

The movies added greatly to the feel of the game. But yeah, we should be able to turn them off.

Maybe videos for when particular vices/virtues are gained by our fearless leader.

I like it with a disable option. I adds a good feel to the game.

You forget that in STW there was an option to disable the videos in the Options Menu... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-wink.gif

I loved the movies. It was really amazing some of the ways the ninjas killed there victims. There was always that key point in the video where you knew if the attempt was going to succeed or fail before it happened - like in the house, if the taisho's eyes glanced to the side, you knew your ninja was doomed.

I agree that they did add to the immersion factor of STW.

Cinematics add a good deal of atmosphere to the gameplay. So yes, I'd like to have them. However, they bear the risk of becoming repetitive after a while, which has lead me to vote for #2.

Bring em´ back But with an in-game option to turn them off if you don´t feel like watching the 37th assasination in a row.

Yes, they should have them In RTW, but again with a toggle to turn them off. I would personally squeel with delight watching a cutscene of my troups marching to war, having sieges, and either losing or winning a battle. Perhaps even with a valiant charge

Not at all. If they must include cutscenes like that for the folks who can appreciate it, they really should use the in-game graphics engine, or some kind of real-time rendering so the game can dynamically adjust them to some extent. But old school shogun FMVs, no.

I agree that they made STW that much cooler and think they should have them in RTW, but here's why I think they won't.

In Shogun, all the factions could use the same scenes as the clans were all Japanese. Therefor the fact that a ninja was trying to kill a Oda and it looked the same as when he was trying to kill a Mori didn't matter. The clans were all same, Japanese.

In MTW, you now have many different cultures. Which would have required them to create seperate movies for each. Germans should look different than French, Egyptians different than Turks. Can you imagine seeing a assassin go up against a English King in his bedchambers and then seeing the same scene when he went against the Egyptian one?

In RTW you will have as many variables if not more. As you go back in time the visual difference between the factions is increasing. Ancient Egypt looks very different than ancient Greece.

Now they could do it mind you. But I am betting they don't want to spend the money or time on something that most people will turn off after the first or second time they see it. Which in a way seems odd. To do it for STW, their first TW title, but then to decide that as they improve on the title line to leave them out seems lazy.

Now they could forgo doing movies that would require the depiction of the specific factions. They might think about doing cutscenes for events that could be applied to any faction. Off hand I can't think of any specific examples that would be worth doing or have the impact that character based ones would though. I don't know if I'd wanna see a cutscene for say a earthquake or flood.

Let's say I'm right and it's all about time and money. Then I think they should improve on their message art concept. Instead of a single frame of art with the message make a 2-3 frame progression with sound like they already have. If they went this route they could do art for all the different factions as the process would only involve 2-3 frames per event.

Oh, I almost forgot. Speaking of those movies in Shogun, does anyone know where they are stashed in the files? They are not in the movie folder, those are only the intro and outro, and all the endings depending on what clan you played.

I would like to extract them and have them to view outside the game but for the life of me I can't find them.

They are in the EvAnims folder. The geshia vs the ninja clips are particularly unnerving. Poor ninjas.

I see no such folder, not sure if I have full install, I forget. I don't think I do. Might this be what I need, do you have it installed that way? I have not played a campaign since installing it on my new computer. I am getting into MTW right now. But I think I remember the CD winding up when I had it on my old computer when they played. Which if I have the same type of install now, which I prolly do, it would be the same. So they are on the CD for me?

I will stop posting along this line after this post. Hijacking threads, is baaaaad. Sorry.

I haven't finished a MYW campaign yet. Are there at least end movies for each faction? Like in STW where you advanced to modern times and saw the statue.

They could definitely do that in RTW, those movies were basically one movie with a different statue in variants.

I would like to see the movies again, but as Poison Arrow described, the differences are too great to make it a realistic possibility. Likewise with the (absence of) movies at the end of MTW. There is no statue that they could put up, and each capital would look different. As well, in the Shogun movie it has all of the colours moving towards one central spot. In MTW, there would be many of these capitals. Although, I guess, it may be possible in RTW, just have everyone use Rome as the capital http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Welcome to the Org Tristan. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

I just re-read my RTW preview in Computer Gaming World, and it indicated there would be movies. There will be scripted deployment sequences showing the troops marching to the battle with music to give it the appropriate flavour. Tim Ansell from CA told CGW there will be more cinematic elements including voice-over descriptions of what leads up to a battle.

Sounds good to me.

I love the idea of RTW having videos too, however I voted #2 because seeing the same videos mucho can get boring (like the vice or virtue gained screen in MTW).
