Have any of you experienced this? You are in a battle and through some miracle of nature your catapult launches a boulder right into the enemy general? It has happened 2 times to me so far. I love watching a whole army rout after only 1 shot and 1 hit.
Just today something funny occured, somehow my trebuchet threw a wild toss RIGHT INTO my general who also happens to be my king as well, my whole army routs not even a single enemy was killed. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif Can you imagine something like that going down in the history books?

I had something similiar happen when I first started playing M:TW. After an epic fight between my 1,500 English troops and 3,500 Spanish troops, the Spanish were fleeing the field so I sent my cavalry, including my general after them for some prisoners, and he got his head knocked off by a catapult missile which was already in the air when I ordered my catapults to cease firing to prevent him from getting killed.

Ugh. I bet that was horrible. I once had an army of like 16 catapults (or one of the seige things). I set them on hold position and fired as soon as the enemy was in range. BOOM The enemy general was pelted with 3 shots (the other 13 missed or hit other armies). All of their armies routed but 5 and I soon finished them off.

forget catapults.

If you can get a ballistae to nail the other side's general,I'd count that even luckier.

But yeah,I must have been wearing something lucky when I wiped out the Khan and 3 other MHC when we faced off( I was turks) in Khazar.

I was playing the French and was invaded in provence by the Spanish king. I set up 4 catapults, 6 archers and 6 spears on a small hill on my edge on the map. Had another 6 archers, 6 spears and 6 cavs for reinforcements.

The Spanish king is marching down the hill with an massive army quite confident of victory since he´d invaded with little over 4000 troops and I had just under half of that.
I aimed my catapults on the unit in front of the king and sent of my first boulders. 3 missed but the 4th went slam-bang through the spears in front of him and wham took him out on the next bounce. Need I say the Spaniards went home?

LOL, I gotta remember this tactic. Awesome. Wouldn't it be great if you could hand out one medal per battle. For that unit that won the day.

And by the sounds of it, it happens quite often...

Happened to me a couple of times early on. Then I started keeping my general's unit back. It was almost like the knuckleheads thought they were wide receivers on a post pattern or something. I got it I got it Thunk.

I now follow a more modern approach. My general's unit is held in reserve until I'm desperate, I've broken their line, or I need them to pursue (if cav). To me, the consequences of losing your gen far outweigh whatever advantage he may offer with his valor. However, I always send him in on a seige. Really high probability of a promotion for storming a castle. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

If I recall correctly from my time with Shogun, the proximity of your general is a factor in his moral boosting power. Am I correct in this? If I am, be careful not to leave him too far in reserve. Otherwise you may lose out on some of his affect. Not all, but some, I think.

Ya may be right, PA, but he ain't givin' the boys a lick of moral support lyin' under a rock. Seriously though, I usually keep that unit just behind the center, you know, for emergencies. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Yep, that showed Kenchikuka three things:

A dont allow catapults in tourney games (FF Kalle CWB)
B generals are great catchers (Baz his gen)
C It is bad to loose a general within 5 seconds of play (Baz his gen)

ps: Any reference to FF or its member Kalle is pure coincidence, we do not recall any such event of happening vs FF or its member Kalle, so that we mention Kalle in this post is a coincidence http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-jester.gif
