Just wanted to share a nice turn out of events...

Playing the English I´ve a solid grip on my French holdings. Took Brittany from the French but are now at peace with a marriage to seal it. In 1150 AD the map looked very nice. All factions in their rightful place and with reasonable stacks to defend them.
My first crusade arrives in Antioch when I find out that the turks hav in fact conquered Turkey and holds Constantinople, have lost Edessa to the Eggys but are now allied with them. The Egggys have completely wiped out the Almohads and holds all lands to Morocco.
Anyway, the Eggys retreat from Antioch and the Turks choose to stay allied to me, he he I quickly take Edessa which is now isolated since the Turks holds Syria. Then I take Tripoli and Palestine and make peace with the Eggys - after hardly no fight at all. Then the Turks and Eggys reinstall their alliance so right now there is really peace down here in Palestine. I´m now at 1205 and there haven´t been a single skirmish in this region for over 50 years Call the Nobel Price Committe´ - I´m up for the peace price.

You seem to get money mostly when you're the Catholic faction making the least amount of money. Its like a little Papal help to get you going. Once you're pretty strong, you won't get it as much, if at all.

I don't know abou that. I have had papal handouts when I'm beating the snot out of my neighboring catholics and making a hefty amount by ransoming and pillaging.

It's the funniest when a handout and excomm threat apears in the same turn.

I've had that about 4 or 5 times.

I think the Pope heard me wining, he´s now handing me 1000 fl./ 2 crusades. I´m battling the mongols who has taken all of Russia, Baltics, Balkans and half of Turkey. What I do is let my main army do the battles and conquer a province, leave it setting taxes on 85-95% which usually spurs rebels not mongols. When that happens I crusade it, take it and get a handout from the Pope. My kings influence is going through the roof an I must have got atleast 15.000 fl from the Pope during this war only.

what faction are you? I only got handouts as the spanish, french, or HRE.

English. Well, it never says that it is in thanks for the crusades but before my crusade-rush of the mongols I got my usual florins in the beginning of the game. Now I get 1000 florins per two crusades on an average.

Between 500-750 florins so I´m actually making a net surplus on this crusade-business.

BTW, are you able to consistently get good troops ie. loads of knight/order foot or just have mountains of fanatics?

Since the crusade cost me around 1000-1500 fl/ 2 crusades and the Pope gives me 1000/ 2 crusades and the troops I get are 90% knights, between 400-700 of them, so I must say I´m really making a profit here.
What the heck, they are selling old bones in the Vatican for a hefty price so why can´t I make a profit "walking Gods way?"

gimme details of your crusading, me want loads of knights templar for cheap ususally I get about 1200 fanatics and maybe 1 or 2 order foot, a single knight if i'm lucky.

I think you have to build up zeal in a province first before requesting the crusade, a grand inquisitor and some royal family members sitting in the province for a few turns beforehand usually helps....
I usually get a lot of money from the pope as well, he sends me 1000florins every crusade. He also sends me 1000 for assasinations on kings as well, I got 1000 for assasinating the french, english, and turkish kings- and the papacy hasn't excommunicated or started war with any of them...

I have a crusade factory in Wessex where the entire royal family is. Zeal is around 85% if I remember it correctly. I´ve ass, bish, gr.inq, card and spy in that prov so it shure helps. I´m quite baffled that I don´t get any crappy units and fanatics just foot and horse knights (can´t remeber their proper name).

My wessex is always at 73% or so. I never bothered with all that crazy inquisitor cardinal stuff nor putitng in high zeal gov. could be why.
