Well for 1 with the new ai taking over assigned units i think dropped players armies should be ai controlled (at the moment when a player drops we all just quit the battle anyway). How about being able to play historic battles in multiplayer? No campaign so how about a series of battles fought in multiplayer perhaps from some of the great campaigns of the time?

Id also like to see a simple feature that you can have on or off that makes the COMPUTER decide who is on defence and who is on attack once both sides have been confirmed.
Example.... : 8 players join a game on carcano im on the team normally in defence so no matter what happens thats the side of the map ill start on, but the computer selects my team for attack which means our team on the normal defencive side have to attack the normal attacking side. I feel this will add more playability to each map and as an option to turn on or off how could it hurt?

Id love to see the timecommanders battles available for multiplay also
Heh I was actually preparing a thread like this..
I would like to hear from CA what they plan to do with MP. Are they gonna change anything with upgrades and such?
My understanding is that historical battles were made available for online play...but not so sure anymoe.

I think a 2 player campain i.e. only 2 factions would be possible. Even if it were only made available on a subset of the sp campain map it would still be great to be able to campain against another human. Just make it so that you can saved same as SP by whoever is hosting and have a configurable round time limit. Who wouldn't love to be able to play that?
Making the campain multiplayer is probably the biggest avenue for newness available to CA and I really wish they would do it.

If historical battles can be played online, isn't this a major step towards the community making its own online campaign? I'm assuming we could make our own historical battles, or online campaign battles in this case. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

Good idea Gregoshi, we could just select a sequence of historical battles and play them.
What could also be good is to get your stars stored in multiplayer battles.Say if you're playing your 3rd battle of a sequence, and you won the previous ones, you can have a 2 star gen from the beginning, instead of having to buy the stars... and also your veteran units valor, so the "shopping" before each multiplayer battle will be more like retraining and reorganizing rather than getting a new army every time. You will reach a point when you experienced legions wont even have to engage, the enemy will just run as they show up, and thats quite accurate...even Hannibal avoided facing a legion charging head on, and the Praetorian guard was a terrible force....
And historically there were "chosen" legions like Marius' First Born (or Primigenia, that was annihilated whe Sulla got the power).
And what should also be included is a unit editor for the SP game so you dont have to mess with the files to get the units you want...
Also what should be included in historical campaigns are the battles that would happen if you lose a particular battle...It wouldnt be the same if Scipio Africnus lost in Zama would it?
