I have been trying all night to connect but the old XP problem is not letting me on. Which got me thinking about the LAN option. If you had a modem pool(and multiple phone lines) and people dialed into your server, would this not constitute a lan? Would the people connecting to your server see your game hosted under the lan option. Has anyone dialed into their friends computer and had a game this way? Of course going back to dial up would suck, but it would be a great way to host tourney's. I ran a program adding up the data being sent/received while playing online and was very surprised at the low amount of data being transfered. Of course people would want to be close to the server to not have long distance bills that kill them. If this worked you could have the servers running a vpn to each other over the net, showing one big LAN. Assuming STW didn't notice anything strange you could have a large tourney without EA's servers.
just a thought, while I'm unable to play. Oh well back to JK2
