hi,

i played the almohads in high and late era. and to stand against these damned steel packed crusaders, i tried to tire them out in my hot deserts. i kept the main part of my army on the edge of the map and skirmished with some saharan cavalry and berbers. so they had to cross the whole map, ran after my skirmishers and all that in the burning sun. so, when they arrived they sure were tired

but, now here is my question, what is the exactly effect of low energy?
i found out, if there is no energy at all left, units can´t run anymore. but are combat abylities also affected? and are there already effects if one or two bars are missing?

hoping someone can awnser my questions

Yes,fighting ability drops,as well as morale.

I can't remember the exact figures, but for a missing energy bar, there is already a morale penalty. This is especially hard on Western factions fighting in desert environments.

I'm waiting to see what one of the more techie people say.I might be wrong though.

I dont know the stat penalties, but I am certain that they exist. As Aragon, versus the Spanish, the Byzantine, etc., in the desert, my superior units were simply TORE UP in desert and arid climes.

My troops benefitted from high steel weaponry and (penalized) by armor upgrades. The only troops that were decent were the un-upgraded Jinettes. But even they tired swiftly and got chewed on quite a bit if I let them get caught.

Weather has a tremendous affect on morale. There are some good, recent threads. Just run a search on morale. You should get some hits.

Welcome to the Org Leodegar. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

As the others have stated, there is a penalty - tired men have little desire to fight.

I believe it's quite severe for the last level, there's a -6 attack and -8 morale plus possibly some defense penalties IIRC.

this is most seen in desert or snow.

Managing energy is one of the most important aspects of the game. Armored troops in the desert, or in snow, fatigue rapidly. Anybody running or fighting uses up their energy, as do missile units while shooting. Units lose energy just standing around, but can recover in some circumstances.

Walk, don't run.

I think that I found some info on this subject in a post by Yuuki a while back (forgiveness please if it was from someone else).

Morale effects on tired units:

Very Tired: -2 or -3 (I have seen both values in various threads)
Exhausted: -6
Completely Exhausted: -8

Attack/Defense effects:

Quite Tired: -2 attack
Very Tired: -3 attack, -1 defense
Exhausted: -4 attack, -2 defense
Totally Exhausted: -6 attack, -3 defense

Exhausted troops can't run, IIRC.

Clan Berserk has created a wonderful tool that allows you to compare unit v.s. unit. Once it has determined the outcome you are can adjust variables to see if it would change the outcome, fatigue level is one of these variables. An excellent tool to learn about units and their strengths.
