Im playing a GA campaign and i was trying to elminate a faction by assisanating his king until the kind died without hiers
with swarms of assasins i eliminated about 3 or 4 kings in about 5 turns, final it said that the king had no hiers. i tried forever to assasinate this last king but nothing worked, i must have send 200 (not less than two stars mind you) but he still didnt die. does the game not let you kill kill the last king of a large empire becuase the breakup of such an empire into rebel states would be wierd

You certainly can assassinate the last King. You must have had a stretch of extremely bad luck if you sent 200+ and didn't get him. Of course, you also have to watch where he's sitting. If the province has a border fort, the majority of your assassins probably got caught before even making it to the King.

And that last king might gotten the valor vs assassins virtue. At the last level it gives 8 (or 6?) extra valor (see it this way that 2-star king went to a 10-star). It doesn't show up when you'll try the next assassin attemt either.

I hope you sent them only in swarms of 20+ as each time he survives, he is more likely to gain anti assasin virtues.

If you love assasins, get syria to get 5*s. 10 of those in a non borderfort province drops every king I've tried.

thanks for the help. i exaterrated witht he 200+ but i did send quite alot. i finally got feed up, and killed his last king in battle. it made a nice pretty map of rebel lands as well as many factions re-appearing.

If you and your rival are both catholic factions, build lots of grand inquisitors, hire a muslim or orthodox specific unit to give your grand inquisitors some practice, and then go after the rival king.

^^^ I love that tactic. I'm sure it's well known but I never see it mentioned on the forums. Sometimes I get a mnastery really early and buy a bunch of muslim mercs. I then train my inqusitors unitl 5* and I have an army of inquisitors. Very useful indeed. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

why does it need to be a muslim merc unit?

i use peasents or anythign else i have around that i am not interested in to give the inquisitor something to get his teeth into, raise the zeal of the provence and boost his stats at the same time

what advantage is there to the muslim merc?

Muslim mercs normaly have piety 0, so your inquisitor has a 100% chance to be successful

Can you use an inquisitor on non-Catholics? I thought they only worked on Catholic units. How could a non-Catholic unit possibly pass an inquisition?

When you hire mercs, they do get your religion (which is, of course, historically inaccurate, but that's how the game works). Still, they do have low piety, as a compensation.

I used Grand Inquisitors with great success against Catholic royalties and I even managed, once, to fry the Pope - that was one thing I never succeeded with usual inquisitors, no matter how many stars they owned.

Inquisitors for Catholic enemies is definitely a better choice than assassins.

Grand Inquisitors are needed to burn members of the royal family. And they get only a 25% chance (max) to burn a king, and the zeal needs to be 100%.
