For some reason when I now go to edit my posts in the tavern it says this function is not available to you? I always could before. Can anyone help me with this problem? Also at the sametime I started getting a message that flood control has been activated and I have 2 wait 255 seconds to post.

hmm, sounds like your in a pickle. You are a member, so you should not have a problem with posting messages and should have no restrictions, or going into other forums and editing your post. it's best if one of the moderators replies, but none are online at the mo. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-no.gif

Gawain, it has to do with those yellow warning cards under your avatar. When you are given warning cards, your flood control increases with each card given. It is a form of punishment for bad behaviour. Often those disciplined via warning cards feel unfairly treated. They decide I'll show THEM what bad is and spam the forums with flaming posts. The flood control limits the damage of such actions. If you are good, the cards go away and so does the flood control.

As an added bonus, the issuing of a warning card disables your edit button for posts. This has two effects. First, if you misbehave and post something that severely breaks forum rules, you cannot go back and remove the evidence of your wrong-doing. We had problems with this in the past, where someone would write a flaming post and when we'd discipline them, they would edit out the offending remarks from their posts and then claim they were wrongly accused - where's the evidence? Second, you must give more thought to your posts since you know you can't go back and coverup any evidence of misbehaviour.

Where do you see if you have any yellow cards?

Right under your avatar, above where it says 'member'.

I only publically mention Gawain's warning cards because he announced in the Tavern that he deserved the warnings and accepted full responsibility for his actions.

I take it only mods can see the warnings?

No. The first two warning cards are invisible. They are meant to be a private please stop breaking the rules and no one needs to know we had this little chat. Should the bad behaviour continue, the subsequent warning cards are visible to all as a notice of the patron's unacceptable posting practices. I guess you could look at it as a scarlet letter kind of thing.

it would be nice if there was a 10-minute grace period that allowed people who can't edit there posts normally, the ability to edit for 10-minutes after posting. the Mods are not gonna get-to and warn-about a flaming post prior to 10-minutes after the post was made anyhow.

i have been profusely aggravated by this site not allowing me to edit my posts because i often just type everything as thoughts pop into my head and then edit my post after it's posted to correct typos, grammar, and repetition. it's VERY annoying to not be able to edit your posts and a 10-minute rule like i suggested here would be a Win/Win situation for everyone and get rid of that aggravation

Not a bad suggestion, but it seems unlikely that it can be implemented.

The simple answer to this 10 minute rule is to proof read your post before you submit rather than afterwards. There is even a preview button which gives you a view of what the post will look like when you do submit it.

there are plenty of chances to make sure you've got it right before you post but my messages always look fine until i post them....
