Have you ever had a battle where everybody on both sides dies except for the two kings, and they both duel each other to the death? Isn't that great?
I remember one particular battle where all of the Byzantines and all of the Turks were slaughtered except for my Sultan and Emperor Alexius III. They both charged at each other and fought amidst the thousands of dead bodies strewn across the field and in the pouring rain. For several minutes they fought each other, until finally the Sultan slew the Emperor and I conquered Constantinople.
I also remember another battle where I captured both Alexius III and Commenus...that was great, too.
I have really only played two games of Medieval Total War in all the time I've owned it (been occupied with life and other games), so this may be common to everybody, but the first time it happened to me it was really spectacular.

That was going to be my question, did you save the replay? And if so I'd like to that.
I was stupid the other day and did save a wonderous (well in my mind) victory. 4 Peasant units, 2 miltia sergeant units, and one byz infantry unit, defeating 80 royal knights and 120 archers. Swift flanks and lots of arrow casualties but I slaughterd them down to the general then routed them all.
Blimey, must be some hardcore battle to get down to the 2 Kings left alone dueling it out.

That's pretty amazing. I'd have figured morale issues would have had one side or the other rout before it came to that. That must be one cool replay. Can you pass them to other people?

Never seen that, but once, playing Danish, I saw that Northumbria was garrisoned by 2 French units: a 1-man feudal sergeant and a 1-man peasant unit. I invaded with a 1-man viking unit and a 1-man CMAA. The battle took place on the sandy beach and lasted about 10 minutes. There was a lot of grunting and moving back and forth amid the waves. When the first duel ended, I left my surviving viking as a spectator to watch the other two, exhausted troops. I really appreciated the game engine, watching these mini-troops tango on the beach.

I had that happen in STW, many moons ago, with 2 Daimyo fighting alone to the death. Course, there was no replay feature then http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif .
I also had battles where I had been pushed back to one province, I think against Hojo. They had all the rest of Japan, and this was the last anti-Hojo stronghold. All my agents were dead, all I had was one full Daimyo stack of huge honour troops. I suicidally charged my soldiers forward, and they all died gloriously, no retreat. Then I charged my still fresh Daimyo and bodyguards, the last non-Hojo soldiers in Japan, straight at the enemy lines. One by one, the bodyguards fell, and eventually I was left with just my Daimyo. At 10 Honour, it took 400 Yari samurai 20 minutes to bring him down. A truly glorious end.
Haven't anything that cool in MTW yet...

Man, that sounds like something straight out of Morte d'Arthur. Huge battle that just degenerates into a 1 on 1 fight between generals. I hope I experience this sooner or later.

Only ended up with this once with hiers on both sides. Me (the Spanish) vs the Almohads. Although it was battle around them, it ended up with a one vs one. My prince with 2 of his bodyguards charged the lonely Almohad prince, that faught valiantly, killed both of my bodyguards and finally slayed my prince http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif . The rest of my army routed.
It was cool though.
well, I had a king 1 on 1 once.
It was my spanish king taking on the lone Italian king in sardinia, his last stronghold.
It was kinda unfair though as though we both had full units of RKs, mine was from castile which had w1 a2.
they fought until i killed all of his BGs and I had about 6 left all of whom he slew.
then, he fled after engaging my king and routed straight into a unit of merc italian inf I positioned behind him and was promptly killed.
ahh the irony.

http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif Welcome to the Org Haethurn. Thank you for bringing that amazing story of battling kings As you can see, it is not a common thing and I don't ever recall seeing it discussed before. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif

Thankfully, it is easy enough to mod the royal units to include only the King (or Prince). Unfortunately, good luck trying to keep him alive long enough to reach Jedi Master.

Wow that sounds like a pretty amazing battle, for two kings to be fighting 1 on 1 for the fate of their kingdoms. You should really upload the battle.
Well I haven't seen something like this in any of my games. i would like the ability for a man to man duel between kings and/or champions. A duel for the fate of kingdoms and empires would have been something really epic.
I was sitting here thinking of how cool that would have been, then I remembered they were on horse... Would have been better if they were both on foot, but that can only happen in medmod...right?
Anyways, cool nonetheless.
Hoooo yeah, a Danish Huscarle king vs an Italian CMAA king. I think the Italian king might be in trouble.
Anyway, nicely done. I have never seen a 1 vs 1 battle between kings either.

yeah I've had it happen once.
there's a cool voice WAV that refers to it as in, Your King has been slain in a Battle Royale etc.
