Simple question to my fellow players.
Having started a campaign and attacking a neighbour my troops perfectly show up on the batle field with sometimes a message in green about certain units being available as reinforcements.
In custom battle I put the flag down at a certain point where those reinforcements as supposed to gather and than proceed with calling them up.
In the campaign however I can put the flag down but the units simply do not show up. I mean I can push the call button but the counter does not count down and nothing happens. Is this 'treason' .....or am I missing something ?

In custom battles reinforcements can not be used since you can only buy 16 units.

As for the campaign; are you sure you don't still have 16 units on the field? You have to have 15 or less units on the field before reinforcements can be called upon and ofcourse you have to have at least one unit in the reinforcements que.

Hey, another Dutchman
Your answer (thanks a lot )is not quite right.
If you're the defender in a castle and your number of units don't fit inside the walls...the remainder can be called up as reinforcements.
You mentioned something interesting...the reinforcements que....I think that's the problem. I did not use this que. How do I use it ? (I know....stupid question )

Your reinforcements get put in a queue even if you do nothing. You can then change it if you like but your reinforcements will be there for you regardless of that.

DnC's explanation seems the most plausible, i.e. that you already have 16 units on the field. Ordering your units off the field is not enough to vacate a slot, the unit must have withdrawn completely before you can summon another unit.

To change the order of reinforcement's you must have VI.

It actually is possible before VI but it requires far too much tedious meddling to be practical.

Thanks for all your input,

I have actually only recently begun to play campaigns as I've always been focused on custom battles and map making.
Although I had a preconceived notion against campaigning I must admit it's quite fun. I'll try the 'que' as well and will undoubtedly find my way around.

Anyways;
How can you have reinforcements in a castle defense?
In custom battles I, at least seem to remember it so, can always put all my 16 units inside the castle. But I could have remembered it wrong.

As for the campaign; I'm not quite sure, but if you have 16 depleted units that fit into a castle I think they will all be able to fight the battle at once inside the castle.

When having lost a battle or you withdrew inside your castle, then every unit above 16 units (I think) or over the maximum number of men a castle can hold will retreat to another province. So if you have e.g. a castle that can hold a maximum of 960 men, and you have 9 units that number 980 men then there will have to be at least one unit that must leave the province to get under or number exactly 960 men in the castle (note: men on horseback count twice the number of men). Units will never splitt up to make the castle have a full garrison (e.g. a 100 men spearmen unit won't splitt up in two of 50 when withdrawing to the castle of which one of the two has to leave the province) - I'm just making sure you know this http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif If there isn't a province then they'll mostlikely be asked to be ransomed back.

So in a castle defense I don't think you will ever be able to call upon reinforcements, but then again I'm not really sure about this.

Hi

A small castle will sometimes only hold 1 or two units. The rest can be called upon whenever you want. In custom battle I than usualy start with puting my flag down and sart calling up my troops before focusing on my castle defende again. That way it's fun to have your reinforcement show up just when the enemy swarms around your walls.

That's probably why I never had seen that before. Whenever I played custom battle castle defenses I played with some of the largest buggers around http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
