Oh, stupid!!

I my current MTW/NTW game as the russians/Expert, and having succesfully "reunified" 1/3 of Europe under my rule, I am now facing a problem.

The world is splitted into 3 factions worth consideration. The germans (they control everything from franconia, bohemia and frieslant up to Denamark, and Prussia which are both mine)

The french: their french homelands, Mercia, and some islands in the Mediterranean.

The Italians: Control everything else except Russia, the balcans, and Anatolia. I wiped them out from Austria and Greece recently but the reappearing polish in Saxony splitted my empire. My best general (8 star, skilled attacker, exper defender, expert last standing, killer instinct, scant mercy, pride, Mighty warrior) is sitting with a reliable army in the tiny part of the empire with not enough strenght as to wipe out the 4 polish stacks.

So i wanted to do it the other way around, that is, piercing the Italians through Flanders,arount the germans all the way up to Milan, where my stranded gen is.

The problem is, the French and the italians are at war, and keep retaking Flanders from each other. That is, the italians appear with a big army -->the french retreat and counterattack next turn --> italians retreat. That have been happening for the last 16 years, and im tired with the game, and can see a good chance to attack myself.

Any ideas?

It is hard to say, but germany might by good. The french and italians are bussy fighting, so you might have enogth peace to deal with the germans. I allway try to keep my empire in one big lump, not taking a province here and a province there far away from russia. I try to attack in one line and protect the sea around the russian empire with ships (baltic sea, black sea ect.). Hope this helps.

Where's the gen? If you can build a port there and ship him out, then you can avoid any long, tedious land battles. Also, if you only want the gen back, see if you can get him captured. He'll return to your nearest provinces, and get +3 morale bonus to boot.

so true, get him captured and the morale bonus is great.

may need titles to offset command drop though. even if you don't have command boosting titles, the morale is more important.

the problem is he is trapped in 3 provs. with no access to sea, but only 2 prvs away from my mainland.If i get him captured, he may return to the same province i attacked from, which is not all that smart.

I solved the situation by waiting for a moment when all the italian royal family went to spend their holydays to Ireland. Then i moved 2 massive fleets surroundong the island and after that, my crown prince with 10 cannons, 3 cossacks, 5 grenadiers, 3 Jaegers, 4 light inf, 6 Guard inf.

And the 1000 italians got slaughtered. Noone escaped. And of courese i killed all the prisoners. (My heir got butcher).

So now all the italian land became Rebels, and the Spanish, the English, the Ottomans reappeared in 2 turns.Still i got half all the provinces to Flanders, Champaign,Switzerland and Milan and Venice, and Cyrenaica in Africa. I just have to regroup some armies, coz i cant stretch more my lines.

One question, if a faction is eliminated, where do all their ships go?

Well, they are sometimes turned into pirate vessels but definitely disintegrated into minor fleets and no longer pose a threat to me shipping.

If you want to know how things went on, theres my last 20 years of campaign:

I wiped out the remnants of the Italians all the way to Rome, Got Spain, Egypt, all middle east, got Ireland, but then had to face revolts in wales, so couldnt keep expanding north for a while...Then, suddenly, and my guest is I reached the point when the computer just starts cheating, i got 4 reappearances.The Spanish, the German, The Ottomans, and the Austrians...All of the with massive stock and various provinces joining the revolts...I "pacified" the english islands, but had to give up all the southern provs all the way up to armenia to the Ottomans,(they attacked with 3 and 4 stack armies). So the way i saw it, my only hope was naval dominance, while all the "new" factions were still weak enough. So i got fleets on every single drop of water in the map, and guess what? The first spanish 6th rate ship sunk 3 1st rates of mine in a single year...of course i destroyed it in the end, and from then onwards dedicated my noble soldiers to attack and brn the rear of my enemiesuntil i got back almost to my previous boundary.

Happy coz i finally managed to crush them, but then the disaster came. Two thirds of my territory rebelled. I lowered taxes, increased garisons, and gave up the hardest places, but still i was facing several revolts every turn.

So i got for the diplomatic sollution and bribed them.I bought every single army that stood against me.(If you cannot win them, join them).

So now my economy is ruined because i have no allies to trade with and the armies are too enormous as to leave me with much income, but i got the Spaniards surrounded in Morocco, and the ottomans left with Sinai,and Arabia.And im preparing my best general (8star, the one i described previously, but he got Captured against the Ottomans in a legendary last stand: 480 russians vs 3460 Turks, and i got 1200 heads).with a golden army of chosen to finish them off.
