Has anybody ever thought about how a charging group of heavy cavalry would look after being hit by say bows ?
there would be riderless horses in amongst the melee as well as many riders without horses

interesting idea, dont know how practical or likely it would be though. for me, i think that would be sweet and a definate turn-on, although not having it would not be a turn-off.

It would be a nice feature, but 'window-dressing' at best. I can live without it.

The "horseless rider" part of it would be problematic to implement, since dismounted men could not possibly remain part of the same cavalry unit. It would be unclear whether you would have any control over these men, and if so, how it would be implemented. The "riderless horse" would be a lot easier to do, since you would only need another possible death animation for cavalry units, and then have the riderless horses run off randomly.
It does look kind of funny when horses and riders always die at exactly the same time, but it doesn't seriously detract from gameplay. Whatever CA wants to do is fine with me.

Haven't we gone through this enough times already? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

Well, there are some legit questions about the physics of it all... How exactly will a chariot crash? If moving in a tight formation, will the chariots behind the dead one somehow stop instantly, swerve, or crash?

Yeah, that is always something that bothered me. You cannot handle a chariot like a cav unit. The physics of those are already terrible. When they should be dashing through the line they come to a jarring stop. This would be even sillier with chariots. I hope they handle it well...

Sooner or later, CA is going to have to seperate the rider and horse.

Not really... What does it bring to the game? Nada. Zip. Zilch.
Do you know the kind of machine it would require to keep track of all those guys, and the hassle of having to reorganize the unit with guys with/without horses.
We've discussed this so many times the topic is very tired. Do a forum search.

LOL I swear. If it was up to some of ya, we would still be playing STW un-patched,un-modded. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif ...im gonna go make a drink.
As has been stated in previous threads about this very same topic, it would take more memory than the current average computer system contains, in order to implement a separation of horse and rider. CA has stated repeatedly that they are looking to make this game playable on the average system, and to not force people to upgrade their machines in order to play the game. I’m quite sure that CA tossed around the idea of a rider-less horse.
I can’t speak for others here who have expressed the fact that they aren’t too concerned with the lack of rider-less horses in R:TW, but for myself personally, I am so blown away by the differences and improvements between M:TW and R:TW, that something such as whether or not a horse stays alive when the rider dies, seems really insignificant to me.
