Hey, just saying hello, being brand new here and all. I'm acually going through sort of a TW Renaissance right now. I've had it for a while, and I just picked up VI, but for the longest time most battles ran like a slideshow on my pc even though my system was definitely qualified to run it. Anyhoo, thanks to the forums I've found I wasn't alone (that maks me feel good), and what worked for other people worked for me. Like I said, just saying hey to everyone. I do have a question though, if anyone knows, I've done some massive research on the forum in regards to this. I'm aware of the difference in the tactical AI on the skill levels, and I was wondering if its ever been conclusively talked about whether there is a difference on the strat map ai between Hard and Expert. Anyhoo, like I said, hey http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

hello and welcome as you are already aware this site and boards are very informative and helpful.

From what I have read and from what I have seen there is no difference, however I could be wrong.

Welcome to the Org, Xecthilor , join the ranks and enjoy your staying http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

As for the difference between hard and expert settings, so far the only I could clearly notice is the fact that the AI will attack your castles when besieged regularly when you play on expert; for that reason many of people are surprised when we discussed how often the AI assaults the castle when besieging, since on the settings below expert that happens very rarely, if at all.

Yes it was. Its depressing when a 128 mb geforce fx card runs like a slideshow when the game box reccomends a 16 mb card. Very depressing

Ouch, sounds like you have a bad mobo or something.

Did you try reinstalling the game?

Actually my pc is fine, which sucks since the battles ran so horribly for me. (at least as far as I know its fine. You have me worried now) http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif A few weeks ago I was on the .com site looking at RTW and I got to searching the forums there and I found a lot of other people had the same general problem. I did what worked for other people, lowering the memory for Direct3d textures for my card, and it worked, so I'm not questioning it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Yeah it was wierd. I mean it would run to an extent, some battles would run ok, but if it was hilly terrain or a decent amount of units it just really went to hell. According to the .com forums a lot of people have had the same problem. Its great finally being able to play it like its supposed to be. It was great a few hours ago to finally have a smooth running large scale battle (around 4000 men). Of course I was fighting a full turkish army plus a large egyptian army at the same time with an already battered crusader army outside of antioch on expert, and I got slaughtered down to the man, but it was still cool http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Greetings and salutations, although I don't know the answer to your question.

My Geforce card installed as a PCI device instead of an AGP device. I had to flash the BIOS to get the AGP working at all, and even now its only at 4x instead of 8x. This makes a BIIIG difference.

Also, check heat. Stuttering can be symptomatic of your processor heating up.

Hello back at you all:

I just started MTW and I thought I was doing well, until my countries (Scotland) & Wales) started revolting. The thing I don't understand is how did the regular towns people come up with massive armies? I mean I could understand if they large amounts of peasants but no, all of a sudden they rise up and have the best knights and weaponry and all.

Anyway, I'm about o loose all of Great Britain because at first I could move troops back and forth but now I can't. Oh well, I guess I have a learning curve to deal with. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Love DeVeau http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif

Welcome my lord,

http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/ht_bow.gif

Nobody in the community ever understood the rationale behind those nasty revoling troops, I suppose. Consider it as a pure gameplay feature and disregard history/realisme to enjoy the most out of it.

To keep the revolt posibility low, concentrate on happines buildings (watchtower, border fort, town watch, mosque/church, ribat/monastry etc. - there are others in the higher tech levels as well) and keep at least one cleric/alim - imam and one spy (at least assasin) in each of your provinces.

watch tower and border forts are almost must have in every province.

town watch is good too and religious buildings like churchs and also a tavern can be very good.

when they drink themselves blind, they don't resent you any more and the assasin training facilities means more espionage possibilities.

Hello Lord http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

it s not a bug - its a feature - there is some info about what rebel armies will be composed of in the manual - it depends on the type of rebellion with loyalist or reemergence beeing the worst in high quality troops. - take katanks advice to avoid them as much as possible and don t start complaining about the weird crusade behavior or katank will have sore fingers typing http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Excellent,

Thanks to all for the great advice. Lets see, keep them drunk. Have an assasin and spy in each county to keep them honest also a church for piety. I built the towers, forts, keeps and border forts right away as they were cheap but I guess I didn't keep enough Priests, etc. in each territory. I will in the future.

Thanks again and keep up the good work.

Sorry for the confusion but you don't need a spy and an assasin. You need a spy but an assasin will do until you build your brothel.

Thank you, Duke.
One spy right.

I went to a great AAA baseball game tonight. Home of the longest game ever, McCoy Stadium, Pawtuctet, RI. The Pawsox Farm for the Red Sox. They won 3 to 2. They were up 2 to 0, then it was tied 2 to 2 in top of 8th by Scranton, then they got the go ahead run in the bottom of 8th and blanked them in top of 9. It was a great game.

One other thing, regarding MTW, I think I spread my fleet of ships to thin because I kept loosing them in battles left and right, and I couldn't get back across the English Channel to re-inforce my troops there.

Any advice on this would be great.

Thank you,
Lord DeVeau
