View Full Version : Early Notepad File-Set Behavior

I was looking around in the Early notepad file in the Total War folder, following some directions to add the Papacy, Sicilians, Aragonese, etc. as playable factions, when I noticed a section called SET BEHAVIOR.

I was just wondering how crazy it would be if I set all the factions to BARBARIAN RAIDER or CRUSADER EXPANSIONIST. Can I add the rebels in there and make them barbarian raiders? And lastly, what other fun stuff could I do with this Early notepad?

Well, basically you can change almost everything as long as you doesn´t forget to change related stuff too. Check the FAQ and guides to modding in this forum.
Changing your, or other factions, behaviour will have a significant impact on the game. Ex: I grew tired of France stampeding through Europe and HRE falling apart in every other game so I simply changed "catholic expansionist crusader" to "catholic defensive crusader" and 9 out of 10 games it runs as I want it. I also changed the Eggys to "Devoutee" since I don´t find it appealing to find them in the Balkans after a massive blitz on the Turks and Byz.
Good luck

I have recently changed all Caths to _DEFENSIVE, Orths to _STAGNANT and Muslims to _PEACEFUL. We'll see how much it will prevent them from megalomaniac frenzy.

I'm playing GA, always with a preset model in my mind. The largest target I have ever had is with the Russians. The AI always spoils my RP fun with Italians doubling the Roman realm, Spain swallowing entire Europe etc.

I started and quit a Turkish campaign with the new settings (ait fun with names coming from unknown hells, like Qansawh http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-inquisitive.gif). Will keep you updated on how things go. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Oh, btw I removed all those silly land bridges (Wessex/Flandre, Morocco/Spain, Sweden/Denmark, Sicily/Napoli, Corsica/Sardinia) too. Expansion is no more cheap. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

My Spaniards stopped doing that after I changed their behaviour and the Italians are nicely put in their place trading.

Me too. That was one of the first things I "modded" when I bought the game. Only time an army crossed a waterway on foot was in 18th century when a Swedish king came up on the Danes back, who had cancelled the alliance we had with them, from a war in Germany.

Btw, if any of you folks have any experience tackling names (people, provinces, factions, heroes, castles) then please have a look at my thread. I'm desperately in need of help. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

I have a bad habit of messing up my well-going Turkish campaign with a stupid error and -not having saved- restarting over. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/flat.gif Just quit another one for a fresh restart. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-stunned.gif

It seems that removing the land bridges has more effect than setting the behaviours. The "crusaderness" is hardcoded and although I removed that attribute from all Caths, they keep sending.

The Spanish, having failed to cross to Africa freely, were eliminated. Ole http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif I would expect the similar for the English (because of the removed landbridge) but they wiped off the French in a couple turns instead.

The good part is, everybody plays in her own backyard. No more Spanish hordes spamming the Middle East.

Will keep reporting. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-smile.gif

Forgot to mention; removing landbridges and resetting behaviours aren't the only modlets that have been applied. I redistributed ships to provinces according to geographical identity, so that whoever owns a Mediterranean province will be building Galleys and up, North Africa will allow Dhows etc. and Western Europe enables Barque et al.

I'm not sure if it has a direct effect on the new political map though. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/handball.gif
