Was at the Big City book store yesterday spending a few hours lusting over the delicious tomes of past battles, and I ran across a dream come true. The West Point Military Series put out by Square One publishing.
Square One Publishing (http://www.squareonepublishers.com/cat_history.html)
There are five sets out covering Napolean, the American Civil war, WWI, WWII Europe, and WWII Pacific. Each set has one book that is purely text, and the other "book" is a series of excellent battle and strategy maps (maybe 16"x16")on thick glossy paper in a large folder that complements the first book. The maps show troop movements and battles and are very nicely done. The Price is about $40 Cdn per book. $80 Cdn a set.
The books are authoured my West Point Military historians and others who would seem to know what they're writing about.
I'm going to pick up the Napolean set and the WWII sets in the next few weeks, but I wanted to share this with anyone, who like me, always wanted maps at hand to help visualize the military texts we read. These books look like the perfect way to spend a few hours on a rainy sunday afternoon.
If they put out sets for the ancient wars, (Scipio puh-leeeeeze) I'm going to go broke. Happily, happily broke. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-book2.gif
