Mouzafphaerre

There's this Mouzafphaerre having to defend against the Horde, coming with two M.H. Cavalry, one M.H. Archers and two M. Warriors, with one Muwahhid F.S., one S. Infantry and one Fut.
Deploys them in the elevated forest in a triangular formation/HF/HP and awaits the enemy charges. They come and go, the Saracens flee for fun and rally. After a couple sucessful countercharges and flanks against the commander unit, the Mongols start withdrawing. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif
What does our Mouzafphaerre ("the Triumphant") do?
Chases them uphill, sliding the speed gauge to 100% to be routed to hell by the withdrawing enemy. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-blush.gif

LOL I have done that, routed the whole army and chased them down at 100% speed only to slam pause too late as their whole army turns around and schools the 2 or 3 calv I have chasing them.
Then there was also the time a unit of 12 (12) valour kataphraktoi charged up a very steep hill into my saracen inf, as my ghulam body guards came around one side, muwahid came around the other side, and camels came all the way around back and the kata's still routed my ENTIRE army.

Often in the rush of battle, the blood doesn't seem to reach the brain that well, and one does this type of....well let's call it go for glory tactic....and what happens then?? the enemy rallies his forces again and beats the crap out of us (I seem to remember something similar at Hastings) .....
How I Simpathyze with you ... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-embarassed.gif ... it happened to me as well .... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-wall.gif ...*lowers voice to a whisper* in more than one occasion i must admit

I've done that plenty of times too.
stupid mongols enveloped my pronoiai that was giving chase.
good think my army didn't see their comrades get cut up from all sides by MHC.
however, when my PAs finally routed, they ripped a nice big hole in the mongols. (when they were routing, they actually got the charge bonus).

I once clicked on the "rout" button instead of the "group" button when my 2 units of byz inf were stepping towards 1 unit of peasant and 1 unit of spears. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-embarassed.gif A few seconds before impact and they just turned and ran away Grr. Took a while before I could rally them. Still slaughtered them all... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Just today as the Irish (modded in Early - Expert difficulty) I lost the campaign due to lack of heirs and just before that I suffered a major defeat against the English.
I came with about 2500 irishmen versus some 1800 english. My king (trying to equal his father's succes - poor misguided fool, he should've been serving food, not command armies - yeah I'm gonna blame a fictional, non-intelligent "gamecharacter" http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif) versus their king (IIRC both 4*'s). I had sent my infantry to meet them while a strong cavalry flank was to go around their left flank. Suffice to say my cavalry never got to attack the left flank because my entire infantry frontline started wavering and shortly afterwards a chainroute ensued. I lost some +-800 men and killed only +-150 (I withdrawed before I was going to lose even more men). My king only had one heir to the throne and it was his brother who's only one year younger. My king died at the age of 52. Then his younger brother took over and, although having a son at the age of eight, he died two years after rising to the throne. End game.
Ah well, next
Been there, done that. It happens to me when I lose track of how many reinforcements the enemy has brought on and I launch the final, clear the map attack only to find yet another army marching onto the field. Yikes

Hate it when that happens. Also when I select all and route instead of group. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-wall.gif

Heres one.
Random battle feature. Russians vs. Polish. 1 unit polish, me overpowered russians. I senced an ambush. Waited a few minutes, then advanced. Huge Cavalry charge from the woods. Got my ass kicked. Died fighting.

I had pretty much wiped out and routed an Almo army with my Egyptians. While the bulk of my army was pursuing the tattered remnants off the field, I sent my full-strength general's Bedouin camel warrior unit after a pesky desert archer unit (with only 8 men left in it) that had broken away from the main group and was shooting from my rear. Their first volley killed only one man in the camel warrior unit. Unfortunately, that one man was my general. At the same time, the Almos had two units of AUM show up, which immediately caused my entire army (made up mostly of supposedly elite Abyssinian Guards) to rout. Yuck...
