just wondering why the battle music in Total War does not seem to loop. it appears that it plays once and then there is no more music which of course makes the rest of the battle very boring and less dramatic than when the music is playing.

is this because the music is designed not to loop? and is there any Mods/config edits i can use to that my music DOES loop?

I'm pretty sure the music returns after a fair amount of time (it definately does during long bridge battles). Keep in mind you've also got seperate music for pre-battle deployment, your movements before an attack, and once you start battling. Maybe you just need a break in the fighting before it will come back.

I'd noticed that, too, playing STW. It's really quite irritating, because I like the music and I think listening to it while fighting the battle is cool-it's just a shame it loves to stop and not come back again

It plays in three phases. Initially it plays its nice tension music when it starts, until you move your troops. Once you start moving, it plays a seperate set of mobilization music. Then at the start of actual combat, it plays its battle music. I agree it is awesome music, I don't know if it can be modded to loop but I have noticed that if you pause the game for a few minutes the tension music will start up again, and then so will the battle music.

You could loop it yourself I think. In a music editing program like Goldwave or Sound Forge (I'm sure there are others), you can copy the whole piece and then it paste several times to the end of the original and then save it under its original name. As always, make a backup of the original. There is some information around here that tells you how to replace the music and other sounds. I know barocca modded the various order sounds (attack, move, close, loose, etc.) so that they are bugle calls. I also think he put bagpipes in there somewhere.

another option is to open your total war sound files using windows media player, add them to a play list, and put that one on whenever you play, thats what i do. oh, and make sure you turn down the music in the in game options menu.
you end up with battle music during the campaign part, but i personally dont mind.

you know whats really kewl, buying your Return of the King soundtrack, then saving the songs onto your pc, as wav. files. then replacing them in your music folder. Voila you have instant lotr while you kick butt, i recoomend number 15 for a battle, it has slow spots and fast spots really nice, keeps you calm and reminds you to act fast at the same time http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cheers.gif

That's a really cool idea, actually. ^_^ I have all the LotR soundtracks, I'll have to give that a try

...although I'll be tempted to use all-cavalry armies to raise seiges if I do. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif

Actually, i've always thought that some of the in battle music in MTW was rather lame - especially when you're playing catholic armies - i've always wanted to have the option to turn it off - but correct me if i'm wrong, but i don't think you can.

I find it much more atmospheric to hear the wind in the trees and the sound of marching feet, clanking armour and whinying horses, rather than some pseudo medieval ewok song.

you certainly can turn off music, go to options, audio, turn down music, and all you will ever hear after that is sfx noise.

Yeah plenty of movie soundtracks have been added to my game - LOTR, Gladiator, Braveheart, 13th Warrior, Last of the Mohicans, Dracula - it makes a notable difference
