At .com The Shogun says:

I like the silver shield now he's got a face
But the Eastern Infantryman looks as if he might have trouble running in his flower costume?? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-daisy.gif

Barkhorn.
Beginning with the Silver Shield Pikemen this makes three truly exceptional looking units in a row The Silver Shield Pikeman looks totally badass now that the front of his face and helmet are intact. The same goes for the Eastern Heavy Spearman, which looks vastly improved over the older version seen in one of those Gamestar videos (the one where the Parthians assault a Roman force (Brutii faction?) defending an Egyptian city). The standard Eastern Infantryman looks pretty funky in those floral pattern pajamas of his but I rather like the look. Anything to add some more variety to the battlefield.

Wow ... uhm ... do these guys come in other colors as well (I fear that my eyes will hurt, when they meet the Druids http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-inquisitive.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif )

probably faction colors,Seleucids are purple,so all their units are purple, imagine going toe to toe with britons(blue?)Scipii(green)Julii(red)Carthaginian(white)and egyptian(yellow)man will make the game look exactly when someone is stoned from coke... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif
Nice looking units. But no special abilities? Well phalanx is mentioned in the main text of the Eastern Heavy Infantry..

It is interesting that the Silver Shields have two melee weapons they can use. I wonder how this will work. Will it be like an alt-attack, or will they switch to their swords automatically during melee under certain conditions?
Think we have seen it in Time Commanders. Sometimes they use swords if enemy gets too close so it does seem automatic. Dont know if it really has any game effect except it looks nice.

Watch some of the TC shows that feature hoplites and/or phalangites and you will see a few of them in the front ranks fighting with their swords instead of their spears. I can only assume that CA modeled certain weapons (i.e. spears) to have the potential to be rendered unusable during combat. Pretty damn cool if you ask me and spot on with regard to historical accuracy.
Cheers for the news Myrddraal Gonna check it out right now http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif
I`m not sure but from Time Commanders it seem, that they change weapons if enemy gets through the wall of pike points and closes in.
Or maybe the pikes breake in combat?
I don“t know.

Sorry, Spino http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-sad.gif But as I mentioned, and although Longjohn2 has said that it would be in the game, they should have put a sarissae and not just a spear in the picture. Besides, the shield, as you've said in another thread, should be a little smaller.
There is still another graphical error: the inside of the right foot. Texture mapping? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-confused.gif

As for the other two units, they look nice, although I can't comment on Historical accuracy.

I only recall seeing the unit's "officer" fighting with a sword.
Still having such brilliant colors on the battlefield will add a degree of flair all its own.
Great Job CA http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

The fact that a spearman will switch back to his spear once an enemy has been dispatched with his sword (and there are no more within sword's reach) is definitely less historical but it certainly makes more sense in terms of gameplay and is much simpler to do in terms of programming.
In light of the fact that we know a unit can wield more than one melee weapon I wonder how this will affect combat performance. If a hoplite comes into close quarters combat with heavy cavalry will he be less effective because he has been forced to use his secondary weapon (a sword) which, unlike his spear, has no real benefits against cavalry?

I like these new units. The argyraspid looks even better now, but not much different from the old one. It still looks cool with the Macedonian adaption of the Phrygian cap.
The eastern heavy spearman doesn't look as good as he did in the older one, where he looked cool with the coat of chainmail and all. It's a bit dissapointing, but it is interesting to note that the unit can form a phalanx. I should expect that the Parthians do not get access to this unit.
The eastern infantry looks pretty interesting, and nice with the Persian outfit. Suffice to say all the eastern factions should get access to this, even the Parthians. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-yes.gif
