As you probably all know, we are starting an archive of strategy-related threads here at the Sword Dojo. The archive will contain old threads - not ones that are currently active. If you want to suggest any threads for archiving, post the name of the thread here in this thread. Oh and make sure you put the page numbers too http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Good, we've started archiving some of the threads mentioned!

I don't really want to archive any active threads though; if a thread is still getting good posts then there's no point in archiving it yet.

Are we talking here on taking threads actually out of the GD forum?????

I thought all the way that in the archives would only be the list of strategy related threads; their adress or link along with the title... I think thats enough to make available all strategy threads at a single glance !!!

I would not recommend to CLOSE or move any strategy thread in the GD forum no matter how old it is. I've seen many good threads come back to life after quite some time.

I would suggest to just to store the Strategy threads link (along with the title) in the archive and that's it. Don't close any threads; leave them all open in the GD forum because they can still grow!!!!

Metha I am sure that they a5re just keeping copies of the threads in the archive, although I could be wrong. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Oops, sorry for the misunderstanding http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Archived threads are copies of the originals. The reason I don't want to copy active threads is this:

Lets say a thread on No-Dachi tactics has 15 posts. If I archive it, and another 15 posts are made to the original post, these are not shown in the archive. So I would prefer to archive posts that are finished, or are so long that they have already covered the topic completey (e.g. Back on cavalry).

Archiving does not close a thread.

I'm with Metha on this one. You may have to regularly review your archived threads since they can be resurrected at any time. On the other hand, to say a thread has been archived certainly sounds like it has been closed. So new players with valid points on an old subject may well simply start a new thread rather than continue on the old one.

OK, I suppose that is what we will have to do. If a thread gets more posts, we will re-archive it, thus updating the archived copy - WITHOUT affecting the original.

Maybe you should say at the top of the archive area that they are still able to be posted to for new visitors to the forums.
