I used to routinely slaughter all prisoners on the field of battle. However, I have noticed that all my leaders who made a habit of this have become Unhinged Loons.
Has anyone else noticed this?
Is it a consequence or just coincidence?

ALSO
I have found that setting free captured rebels after a battle results in a massive revolt in the following few turns (in Expert at least).
Again, consequence or coincidence?

Coincidence. My brother routinely kills prisoners and I've never seen him get unhinged loon on a general as a result. I routinely allow captured rebels to live but it has yet to result in a massive revolt. Massive revolts are usually a thing that happens when a player has amassed a certain degree of power.

When I saw the title of this thread, my immediate response was It's easy, just dance in the moonbeams and paint your servants blue

don't forget sucking on horseshoes. they are really tasty you know http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

it's purely random.

the killing prisoners will only get some blood lover vices that may get morale penalties.

killing rebels mean boost in dread. letting them go means leniency/mercy stuff that improves happiness.

either way, the population becomes less likely to rebel.

I like to alternate so you get occasional mercy for happiness boost but also maintain a healthy dread level.

BTW, in my recent Byz campaign, my emperors all personally execute many prisoners, resulting in max dread besides the max stars for most of my heirs.

add to that good piety levels and 5+ acumen, do I smell a perfect king/gov?

I can get a bit paranoid myself, when every action counts but in unknown ways...

A lot of execution should start with swift justice, not madness.

Always remember: just because we're paranoid, doesn't mean they still aren't out to get us. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-inquisitive.gif
