View Full Version : Which settings
Which setting is best used for shogun?
Im usin TNT2 drivers
i have 17"monitor
800x600 or 1024x768
Does 1024x768 fit more units into screen area?
I know it gives more detail, but will this also cause some lag or Slow down or somethin?
Now im thinkin should this be in tech section, well ill post it here anyway. They can always move it http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

Well, I think that you should try to see which of the setting your TNT2 card can handles better. If the load is too large for the TNT2, you may experience some lag in battle mode ( even in single campaign or custom battle).
I currently use a GF2 MX 400 (64 Mb vid RAM) with a 17" monitor. My setting is: 1024 x 768 x 32 for both battle map and strategic map. I have never use a lower resolution on my PC.
I think that at higher resolution, you can view a larger section of the map so it leads to more units get displayed at once.
Anyway, techy guys in Tech Section might have better answer.

I use the same drivers and I run the game at 800x600. Higher resolutions may lag for that vid card.

Well, I just try the strategic map at 800x600. I can view a smaller portion of the map but it is much faster and easier to move unit icons when there are many of them in a small province. Battle field looks better at 1024x768 if your PC can handle it.
Strategic map: 800x600 for faster game play and easier control.
Battle map: 1024x768 (or higher) for the feel of the open space. Lower resolution wouldn't reduce the fun much.
Ok have i got this correct?
if i use Higher resolutions u can see more units on battlefield at one time?
This correct?

But they will be smaller if this is the case.

My PC can handle 1024X768, and it does look a lot crisper. I've noticed its a little easier to get units to deploy in tree-cover on the higher setting because the mouse finds the "deploy pockets" easier. [do you follow me?]
That being said I use 800x600, because 1024 does slow things down a small bit (especially noticeable in 3v3, 4v4 battles, which is what I normally play). So if you are going to be playing some 1v1 or 2v2, and your comp. can handle 1024, go for it. Otherwise go w/ 800x600.
I've not noticed any increase on screensize for 1024x768 or 800x600. True it's a lot better graphically but other than that no difference. The larger the res the slower too.
I once tried (offline) 4v4, manually chose all armies with 120 units and at 1280x1024x32 resolution (max settings I could have.) I'm not sure exactly but I think the game lasted 5 hours plus ....
