Eastside Character has been working on such a campmap but his timeframe is a bit earlier than that of the crusades AFAIK.

Civil War mod already out there. Theres a whole online multiplayer community who have created there own engine (basicly the same as MTW's)
Star Wars I guess you just put that in for the hell of it.
Think the game would crash under the strain of battles. Or the battles would just look sparse with most units being reduced to single animations of Space paraphenalia i.e The size of the animation would reduce the number of multiples the computer could deal with.
Fantasy Ancient kingdoms Hmmmmm, This kind a thing has been suggested before, to mixed reactions. Most guys and girls in here are part hard headed strategists part romantic history lovers (I think). But, the Lord of the Rings mod for MTW however breaks from this. Maybe those guys might be interested.
Personally I think the restrictions on Battle field artillery and unit numbers make this game engine ideally suited for Periods pre 16th century. Battles with little or no artillery and relatively small armies. So the Mythology mod might have some appeal to me. ( I pressume it would be 1st millenium BC) You could have the Myceneans, Eygptians, Assyrians, Hittites, Minoans etc even the Mysterious Sea Peoples(who some believe were actually the Atlanteans, though unlikely) If you make it mostly psuedo-historical i.e based on the likely facts in Legend and not about fire breathing dragons on the battlefield, I think you could have a very interesting Mod. All the religious conflict would make for a very interesting campaign. The Hellenic Total War Mod would be a good starting point.

However,
I want an Early Renaissance mod. Say 1450 upto the Battle of Lepanto 1571-ish. With Landsknecte appearing un-anachronistically, English Demi-lancers. Spanish Tercio's, Jannissary Musketry. Burgundian and French Ordannance, Austrian Roundsheers and Pandurs, Cossacks, Polish Winged Hussaria and....and... lots lots more,

Im a history lover myself...but I like the METW mod too...so I dont have much of a problem with fantasy...I know alot of people do though I guess. Do you have a website for that Civil war thing? I like your idea for the egyptians and hittites. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif
