I found this link on Total War Center forum.
Carthage Faction Feature (http://pc.ign.com/articles/509/509841p1.html)
about the sacred band cavalry:
"Historically, the great Carthaginian general Hannibal took units of the Sacred Band over the Alps and into Italy; even though they got no reinforcements from home two-thirds of these men were still fighting after 14 years of campaigning. "
absolutely amazing...
Yes, excellent. I'm intrigued by Carthage and look forward to playing the faction.

Carthage should be an interesting faction. Their army was 2/3 to 3/4 made up of foreign mercenaries. They should also have access to some Numidian and Gallic units. They relied heavily on Numidians for light cavalry, and Gauls fought in Hannibal's army in large numbers.

Also, many of their officers were Greek, usually Spartan. A Spartan general won one of the few victories Karthago got against the Romans before Hannibal.

So, is IGN now going to give us weekly tasters of units? Great http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif

Indeed. I'm completely amazed. There were Libyan veterans in Italy, but they weren't the sacred band, and they certainly were'nt cavalry.

Interesting. Two things I noticed immediately: the peltasts can "hide in long grass." Cool. And the cavalry "can form wedge." Looks like the wedge is one of those unit-specific formations this time around.

hmmmm i'm wondering what the elephants and poeni infantry "Superior" ability means?
...but by superior i take it they are better than most of the same unit types employed by the other factions?

Nope, not just wishful thinking. CA realized that their earlier versions of horses looked kind of like mini giraffes, and have since fixed the problem. They are apparently also going to change it so that units like horses and elephants no longer walk in complete "mirror image" unison (including stopping that annoying simultaneous tail movement).

Superior might mean something between Elite and Normal units...

True. I'm guessing at the very least Carthage will also have access to a Numidian light cavalry unit, as well as some Gallic warband types. Hopefully the Lusitanian and Celtiberian infantry will also be represented. (the Celtiberians and Iberians may have been lumped into one though) Carthage should also have access to some Italian units if it manages to push into Italy. At any rate I'm interested to see what other units will be available to Carthage. After the Julii, they are the faction I'm most looking forward to playing.
About the Carthaginian Sacred Band...
They were infantry, loosely modelled after the Theban Sacred Band and other similar units in Greece. By about 310 BC they no longer existed, so really they are out of the game's timeframe. The unit called the "Sacred Band Cavalry" by CA would historically have just been standard Poeni-Lybian heavy cavalry. It was quite good, though the Carthaginians relied much more on Numidian light cavalry. (probably the best light cavalry in the world at the time)
The African infantry that accompanied Hannibal were also not Sacred Band. They were Poeni-Lybian heavy infantry.
Great stuff looking forward to Monday
Carthage may be the most interesting faction to play in terms of variety of powerful units. I seem to remember that in the Time Commanders battle they had access to two elite units of Libyan pikemen. I wonder if these are the Poeni heavy infantry on the ign site or something else?

I hope not But that may be a unit they have access to. I know that at Cannae 7,000 of Hannibal's soldiers were Italians and many were Samnites. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-inquisitive.gif
They should resemble auxilia though, not that piece of crap.
By the way I forgot to mention Baleric slingers earlier. Hopefully they land in Carthage's toolbox also. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

That would be a blunder if they didn't. In fact, they were so good that, later, Julius Caeser had them in his own army.
Come on guys, have a little faith in CA.
If you look at the units you will notice that they have presented one unit of each type (though there might be more types). Light inf (skirmishers), Medium inf (Iberians), Heavy inf (those oddly discribed spearmen http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif), Cavalry and Elephants.
Since Balearic Slingers are light inf then it wouldn't fit to have them there. Why they chose the peltasts over them I can only shake my head at.
And for once I am forced to agree with Aymar http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif

I don't think those Samnites are going to be bad, or are bad looking. Just normal medium infantry.
