I am playing as the Polish on expert and glorious achievments... Now Spain has been growing and is at war with me and Egypt. I am NOT allied with Egypt, indeed I can't even see their provinces with the exception of 2 coastal ones... Now on the next turn during the battles, I get a battle menu pop up for SYRIA when I have no armies even near the place. It shows me & egypt against spain, but I remind you that I am not allied with Eqypt & I have no armies near Syria. The battle menu itself is strange as it says someting like: "The egyptians are under attack in Syria and need your assistance" and then it gives me some weird army composed of muslim units i think(I have only played Poland).

So what the hell is that all about? Since when could neutral factions call on you to defend them in provinces you can't even see or reach?
Oh, and I have never owned Syria or any provinces near or around it. At first I thought it was a faction rebellion, but that only happens when you have owned the province in the past.

I have no mods running, the only thing i have changed is letting the polish and danes build chapter houses

Has anyone else ever had this happen to them? It seems unreal to me... Weird thing is that I can't play the battle-it always crashes to the desktop. I can only autocalcullate it. I thought maybe it was a bug, but the strange battle menu message suggests otherwise...

Hmm fun, could you watch the AI duke it out?

Check the log file for the battle - if there is one - and post it here. That might reveal something.
Maybe there was a rebellion the same turn and the rebel units decided to join your faction...
???

sounds a bit odd http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-stunned.gif

rebellion is the most likely explanation.

the polish are so poor that often the rebels decide to join them.

it could have been eggy and spanish duking it out and loyalty was low but instead of loyalist rebellion, there was a muslim rebellion and the rebels decided to join you?

but i thought for rebels to join you, you need to have held that province before... I am gonna find that saved game and quote EXACTLY what the battle menu said...

Better yet, post a screen shot. This sounds really wierd oO

I don't think you need to hold that province before.

it's either you are really powerfuly like the mongols or you are doing so badly the game engine feels bad for you.

other examples include naval combat sacrifice the peasants cheesiness.

Polish are often the underdogs who the engine favors.

What it sounds like to me was maybe they meant to implement assisting your ally when they get attacked but when the final release came out they could not fully implement it without it being buggy or did'nt have the time and something odd happened to you in the game that caused this feature to display itself to you

wow this is seriously messed up, i found the savegame and loaded it up.

It show that I DO have an army there-but it is a weird army.
It is red like the polish but the sheild is a round circle like the eqyptians, when i click and hold on it the sheild changes back to my polish shape, but I can see another round egyptian shield behind it. furthermore, even though it appears to be my army, when i click on the guy it shows his loyalty in egyptian sheilds

Next turn when the spanish invade it gives me this message:

"The spanish have sent an attacking force. they plan to take the province from the eqyptians. The egyptians have also sent a force to join the battle. The egyptians are defending and need your support in battle"

So I take it that this is NOT supposed to happen? All sorts of weird things are happening to me this game, an english crusade just spent like over 20 years attacking the byzantines and sucking up my troops, totally away from its objective in Sicily- when i crusade i can only go forwards, but the eglish have been going ALL over, AND they take over provinces and garrison them with troops from the crusade stack I thought that you couldn't remove units until the objective is taken over. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif

Forget screenies, upload that save game file Sounds crazy.

I would be more than happy to, but I dunno how, I have never uploaded anything before.... It IS pretty weird though, I don't think screenies would work that well for this kind of thing(not that I know how to do that either) I really wish that I could have kept that army though, instead of losing them in the battle... Jeez if the egyptians need some support, they gotta give me a little more to work with than a rag-tag group of muslim units...

katank

well, the ragtag muslim units are quite nice for desert warfare.

BTW, crusade stuff is normal. The AI cheats so blatantly on crusades, it's not even funny.

they can move in the opposite direction, ask you for the province when you beat them to it instead of disbanding, etc.

I had a crusade in byzantine-owned constantinople when the turkish attacked and it gave me that 'need your support' message.

Where you allied to the faction that needed help?

katank

crusades I can understand.

the funny stuff is that it's all neutral factions though. allied, I would understand

I found the savegame file does someone want to take a look at it?
You have to use the :matteosartori: code to see the entire map, because somehow this army of mine is in a territory so far and out of the way I can't see it.
