Shields and some of the helms look ok. Good idea to set it in the period Arthur was originally supposed to have lived in.
Other than that, it's a bit disappointing. The Angles and Saxons (I assume that those are who the baddies are) sometimes wear animal furs and look like generic, hollywood barbarians. Their weapons look odd too-- a double bitted axe, for example. Where are the seax's and scramaseax's?
And am I the only one who cringes when 'true history' and Jerry Bruckheimer are mentioned in the same sentence?

My expectations of Arthurian films are so low that I'm happy if they aren't all wearing 15th century style armour and they didn't do any filming at Raglan Castle.

Oh, but I LIKED Excalibur....
And it was realistic after its own fashion.
That is to say - if it wasn't faithful to the 'historical Arthur' (of which we know next to nothing), it was faithful to the expectations of the audience for which it was originally written.
Have any of you read the Bernard Cornwall books on Arthur ? They are set during the Saxon invasions of Briton and a very intersting in my opnion.
Hmm ranting on a movie that based on something nearly fictitious. Maybe you should tell me all you know about king Arthur

These books are a MUST READ for anyone who frequents this forumn. The "books" consist of 3 books that detail a man in Arthurian times, who gives his allegiance to Arthur.
An excellent, excellent book.

Couldn't agree more
I did quite like Excalibur too - great music, and the guy who played Merlin (Nicol Williams) almost stole the whole damn show
....and let's not mention that travesty with Sean and Richard shall we? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif

Anything by Bernard Cornwell is excellent Those three books are the best sword stories I've ever read. And there are also a few new ones out...one is about the longbow..An Archers's Tale.
I loved the trailer to King Arthur, hope the movie lives up to it.
They were pretty good, but I find his characters repetitive, bordering on cliched.
