i accept this, but how about having Baalzamanon as a pope figure, the trolloc tribes as Catholic, the Nations as Muslim, and others as Pagan/orthodox? :)

how attached are you to the idea of of the Whitecloaks being able to launch inquisitions?

Hang on, I don't get it. Would this be to make it so that factions could Jihad. If so, I reckon its too much trouble. I'd like to get a beta released pretty quick, so I don't really need the work.
Update: I've got some textures for the blight!
i quite understand.
yes, the Nations being able to rally against the Shadow (jihads) would be an elegant touch, as would the Shadow being able to launch assaults against the Nations (crusades), but i appreciate the other pressures that exist on your time.
shame the Muslim faction cannot do something equivalent to an inquisition...

I'm sorry if it lets u down. I will experiment with ur ideas, but after the beta release. I want to get it out before Rome. This may mean that malkier will not exist either, all these things will be done after the beta.
not disappointed in the slightest, merely delighted that someone would take this project on. if you need a beta-tester....................
do you intend to continue developing a WoT mod after R:TW's release? or even better; shift development to R:TW?

I too would be interested in beta testing. I have always been a fan of the WoT and this mod sounds like an excellent idea. You have my full support! ~D

Thx everyone. I've just been offered some help, so I'll be doing my best to get the beta out before Rome.
Here are the things left to be done.
1. Finish the graphics for the Blight. Which is what I'm doing now.
2. Add some new provinces for Malkier (which may or may not be done in time for the beta)
3. Finish the Buildings (which I've done some considerable work on but I've lost the floppy with the detailed tech tree on it. Don't worry I'll find it.)
4. Add some new units (I've done the non faction specific units, and some faction specific ones for Andor and Shienar, but the rest is still to be done)
5. Get a graphic for trollocs. Schrodinger's Cat said he was making one, but I cant get hold of him.
6. Make the new graphics for the new forts. I've made most of them but I'm not sure how to make them work.
If anyone else want to help your very welcome. I will be posting screens of the new blight textures very soon :)
fantastic stuff, even better news that it will be out soonish. :)
i'd be delighted to help but my modding skillz are limited to UnrealED*
what are your plans for this mod post R:TW release? i hope it will continue........? ~:)

Actually I'm hoping to adapt it for Rome, that would truely be awsome. But as u prob know I'm not very good at the graphics for the men. That would be my biggest problem. If this mod generates enough interest, then u never know It might attract somone good at unit graphics to help me.

First, there is a limit of 8 strategic castle pieces that you can have. So those 20 new castles that you made need to share pieces, you can't make them all individual.
Damn ~ Damn ~:pissed: DAMN! ~
I didn't know that! ~:mecry:
Does that mean they have to replace existing ones? ~:(
Oh well I'll manage. It will have to work like this:
Pieces:
1 Villiages
2 Towns up to fortified town will have another piece.
3 Walled town onwards will have another piece
4 Then towns with two walls
5 Then all other Towns
6 Cities
7 Cities with outer city walls
8 Fortress
Or something like that...
That is the most anoying piece of news I've had in a while.

fantastic, all our wranglings about the factions and abilities should become a thing of the past if the new diplomatic system is as good as put about. :D
My post is a bit off-topic, but still WOT related.
I've looked into your thread yesterday. As a Tolkien's fan, I got interested in this series and made a quick search about the books. According to some critics, the first five were excellent but the last five seemed to have disappointed many of the original fans. Some even wrote that the series turned into a cash-cow.
Since unhappy people are more prone to complain (see RTW...), I'm a bit suspicious towards them. Therefore I'd like to know your opinion about it, especially on the tenth book.
Ive read all the books... ehr in swedish but never mind that... and I must say that they are just as good as Tolkien. Tolkien ofcourse got that little something no other fantasy work can do... hard to explain.
But sure i agree that some of the later books are... ehr, SLOoooooooOW...
But as I dont read that much, just from time to time, the books are perfect!
It has some great characters, and Jordan knows how to build a character.
And it got a rather unique magic system... ehr, a little more then normal; "it just works the way it works, dont question it" system! ~;p
Get your hands on the first one and read it... then youll see for yourself! ~
(from time to time there are some nice epic battles... one with more then a hundred thousand crazy desert people ~ )

i must say, my favourite series has to be George RR Martins fantasy series, starting off with a game of thrones part one of a tale of fire and ice, he is a great storyteller, the character development is second to none, the description used is amazing, and imo, better than the lord of the rings.
Thanks for the advice lads.

I think the tenth book is simply setting up the eleventh book. It is a bit slow, not much happens, but it does set up a lot of situations.
For example:
Spoiler! Scroll along to read. If u haven't read book 10 don't. Spoiler! Scroll along to read. If u haven't read book 10 don't: I can't wait to see what happens with the Domani. That general guy is going to take on the Seanchan, by skirmishing with them, then flee across the almoth plain, with the enemy on his heals, to lead them into a trap. Will it work? He hasn't counted on Raken outrunning him...
I know the books haven't been particularly fast moving, but I think RJ has decided to finish it in two more books after this one. I think we can expect some action to come :jumping:
PS. Lazul, haven't seen many of ur posts recently, its good to hear from u.
Alright since I consider myself a WOT addict let me try to help out.
Tar Valon is not the pope per say, in that it won't publicly condemn you for waging war against ennemies. BUT, and this is a huge but, if there is a war they don't want you to fight, or an ennemy they don't want you to move against both officially and on the downlo. Chances are you won't, unless you're a taveren, and even then you'd need to be a pretty strong one. I'm talking Isabel, not necessarily High King-strong.
All factions should be able to crusade, but only against a select ennemy. The Westlanders against the Shadow, the Aiel and the Seanchan (May the Empress live forever). And of course, vice versa. But if a Westlander faction wants to fight another westlander faction, it would have to be a normal war, and the Children can't crusade against a Westlander faction. And also, it wouldn't be a Crusade for the Seanchan, but more like the Reclaiming of the Lands once controlled by the High King and that now belong to his rightful heir the Empress (May she live forever), so the official name would be "The Return", but you could set it up as a crusade, and it won't have to be authorized by no one. The Aiel are more a sort of Jihad, although it's not quite it. There should NEVER EVER EVER be a rebellion by the Seanchan, because who'd be stupid enough to even risk getting sent to the Tower of Midnight and deal with the Seekers, although on the downlo, they could send assassins and whatnot, but NOT against the Empress, she's freaking holy.
As for the Trolloc wars, I believe you're forgetting something, the Ten Nations, the reason why those army "cooperated", was because they were allies. Right now, I'd be surprised if I see an Illianer (Long Live Illian and the Bees) army off to defend the Stone when Illian is in danger.

Let me clear things up a little. The nations can crusade against the Shadow. Tar Valon is not the Pope (There have been countless small wars between the 'traditional' enemies and I don't want a pope to dampen things down, this is a game primarily to gameplay comes first). I am considering allowing the whitecloaks to crusade against Tar Valon. Aiel + Seanchan do not exist, neither does the black tower or Rand. Traveling has not been rediscovered. I have set it up so that the Plains of Maredo are very productive to encourage Tear and Illian to fight over it. :knight:
Hold on now, dictate, I said let me try to help out, which means that these were all suggestions. But you're free to intrepret my post whichever way you want, although I don't have to agree with anything you say since this is your game (I think)

SPECIAL APPEAL, to all people who might be interested in downloading the WoT Mod. I really really want to get a beta out before Rome. I'm not sure its going to be possible. I've been working quite hard, and I am close to finishing all visual aspects of the campmap. Duke Dick is helping me with unit and build prod. And hopefully, if we can't get a beta out before RTW, then at least we will get it out just after. But, thats not going to stop me trying to get it out before. And for this, I need your help. There are 20 new forts. They all need battlemaps. Feel like making a city or two? Any volunteers?

Hm. The battles are the most undevelopped part... I haven't got any new graphics, unfortunately, all my appeals for a unit graphics designer failed to attract any attention. All you would see would be units based on the old ones. I've mixed up all the old graphics. I guess I could post some images of the Blight. I'll do my best to get as many screens as possible up in the next few days. Thx for reminding me EC

I don't know if you got my message or not, so I'll write here as well. I could help, but I need to know what you want the castles and forts to look like. It would be kind of dumb to make a map that does not fit the description of the fortification.

The forts are basically every possible combination of defence:
List of castles and forts:
Defended Villiage - basically a warrior hold. U don't really need to do this one.
Stockaded Villiage
Fortified Villiage - These two are like in VI
Town - One palisade surrounding a fort, more buildings if there is room, this is meant to be a defended settlement.
Town+Outer Stockade - add an outer stockade (not palisade) and extra buildings.
Town+Outer Palisade - change the stockade to a palisade
Fortified Town - change the fort in the centre to a keep.
Walled Town - change the inner palisade to a wall with arrow towers
Fortified Towers - Note: I will change the statistics of balista towers so that they fire more arrows+crossbows and not balistas, (there are no balistas in WoT), but for the time being, just upgrade the towers on the wall to balista towers
Outer Stone Wall - change the outer palisade to a stone wall.
Fortified Keep - Note: This is meant to be an upgrade for the towers on the keep. I'm not sure what is better than keep tower, maybe give catapault towers to the keep?
Outer Palisade - Add an extra palisade wall
City - change the outer palisade to a stone wall (there should now be 3 concentric stone walls)
2nd ring fortified towers - change the the towers on the second wall
Inner City - Change the first stone wall to city walls (the bigger ones)
Outer Fortified Towers - upgrade the towers on the last stone wall
Outer City Walls - Upgrade the second stone wall
Stronghold - (This is meant to be another upgrade for the keep, so add artillery towers or something else)
Catapault towers - on the outer wall so that they don't hit your own walls
Fortress - Upgrade the outer stone wall to a city wall
Notes the cities should take up most of the map. Make them huge.
Thx a lot for ur help.

A well as encouraging people to make maps, I have been making some myself.
Is there a problem with having more than one gate. Why do they never do it in the official maps?
This is the map I played, It has three gates. It was an awsome battle between Andor and Cairhein. I lost, but not before some brilliant street fighting.
The map:

(Also shows my deployment at the beginngin of the battle)

The wall falls!

They surge through into a mass of pikemen and light horse. The Queens Guards arrive in the background.
http://82.68.81.226/david/Battle5.jpg
Meanwhile a unit of house armsmen and a unit of royal armsmen break down the gate!
http://82.68.81.226/david/Battle6.jpg
The fighting is fearce as more men are commited
http://82.68.81.226/david/Battle7.jpg
Meanwhile the East gate is brocken and the defenders are blown away.
http://82.68.81.226/david/Battle8.jpg
The battle is fierce, but those who had brocken down the South Gate arrive as reinforcements at the last minute.
http://82.68.81.226/david/Battle9.jpg
I lost, but notice the difference between their kills and my casualties. The rest was done by arrows from the towers. Thats pretty heavy fire.

The Dragonwall is impassable, the Mountains of Mist are impassable. And the Mountains of Doom have only 3 crossing points. One leads to Shienar, One to Arafel, and One to Kandor and Saldea. U can see this crossing point in the 'Worlds End' pic.
