I'm sure this has been the subject of a thread, but I can't find it. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-blush.gif
If I have a full unit and retrain it for the upgrades, what's the cost? Is it free?
Does the cost vary according to the level of upgrade (i.e., from 0 to 1 costs less that 0 to 4)?
IIRC, when I tested this out in the game - I took a full unit and retrained it in a province that gave it a armor upgrade - it was free.

it's entirely free for upgrades.
the cost of retraining is only the cost of unit multiplied by percentage that needs to be replaced.
Do Armor/Weapon upgrades increase the cost of hiring mercs?
I may have seen it increase the price of bribery, but with loyalty modifiers I am not sure about that either. If it does then A/W upgrades may be a way to decrease the chance of AI buying your favorite stack.

- they do. I can't recall the specifics, but IIRC I saw a unit with +2 weapon and armor, and a plain unit in my merc panel recently. The upgraded unit was twice the cost of the plain unit, but the support costs were the same (i.e. doubled for mercs).
