I understand that an inquisitor lets you legally assassinate another catholic general but is there any significance to the number of people that are killed during the inquisition?

Happiness suffers a lot, which isn't so bad if it's your inquisitor in an enemy province.

It's a nuisance when it happens to you, though. Just attempting an assassination will usually send an inquisitor on his way. The AI knows when its units are targeted and moves them. Just pick up the assassin and put him down in a home province when the inquisitor's out of your territory. No use wasting an assassin.

I fried a whole unit of cavalry once. I figured I'd be nice and leave the Sicilians have thoe 2 islands until the end of the game. The Sicilians had there main force on 1 island and 1 unit of cavalry on Sicily. So I fried away until the Sicilians turn came.

Yes but can make the game too easy so I try to go after loser units for fun and this gives me the backup if needed. knowing I have some highly dependable inquistors

use a network of bishops to spot for your inquisitors and move the bishops out to improve chances of inquisition succeeding.

@ the original question, it lower agricultural output for the province and hurts them economicall although it woul dbe cool if lower population made training troops harder

Hmmm... I have only played about 5 campaigns so far, so my experience is not broad. However, I bribed my way into possession of Sicily and, in doing so, came into possession of some not-too-loyal generals.

I had a brand-new Inquisitor and decided to take him out for a drive and see what he would do to one of my 2-shield generals with a large Goose Egg in the Piety column.

The result was disappointing. Every year for 2-3 years I got an update from the Inquisitor Yes, my liege, there is heresy here which I shall strive to uproot, or somesuch missive. After a few of these notes (and a general still sitting there, plainly unburnt) http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-zzz.gif I just sent in an assassin and knifed the boy.

I packed the Inquisitor off to Africa in the hope that he would bedevil the Almohads (or perhaps just pick his nose?).

Am I missing something with these Churchmen?

Thanks. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

ummm, try grand inquisitor or conquer castile which gives +2 valour for them.

also move religious agents like bishops and cardinals out of the province when you try him.

also, since he's your general, you can make sure the trial occurs in a suitable province. ie. the highest zeal one possible.

try, try, try again as they don't die if the trial fails.

practice on low piety peasants and mercs.

orthodox and muslim mercs have 0 piety even though you can try them since they are technically catholic gamewise since they are part of your army.

http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif Welcome to the Org Anne. I too have had no success with Inquisitors. They are fine at burning the masses, but when it comes to non-pious generals, it becomes much like a Bugs Bunny-Yosemite Sam routine: Bugs is in the kettle, Sam lights a match to start a fire under the kettle and Bugs blows out the match. Repeat. It is funny when Bugs does it to Sam, but not when it happens to my Inquisitors. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

I think it must depend on The piety of the general and the faction as a whole as i seem to be able to Burn as many Sicillian's as i like (low general piety as well as 0 piety for the king) with 100% chance of success where as every other catholic faction gives my a 25% chance max of burning a general

anyone else seen this?

ever tried castilian grand inquisitors?

fun fun fun.

I've had ones that could burn popes consecutively.

the point is to have a big pack of them and try every turn even if they don't succeed.

they don't get killed if trial fails and usually the target becomes an atheist fairly quickly and is convicted.

The hardest part is getting a few stars on an inquisitor, once he's an experienced barbecuer they seem to do a lot better

castile gives 1* or 2* I forgot.

Also, train up the inquisitors on muslim/orthodox mercs that you can hire.

though they become your religion, they always have 0 piety and hence are often easy targets for inquisitors.

try barbequing some peasants.

you can keep peasant for either govs if high acumen or low piety for practice.

Is it possible to actually kill the last king of a faction with your inquisitor? I once had a 6 star grand inquisitor and he had a 20% chance to kill their last king. He got away like 20 times and when I finally got him he just got a 16 year old son, who has also impossible to kil

yep, that could very well be just like the last ship of a faction.

they are freaking jedi in resistance.

I suggest using assasins or just killing him in battle.

Dammit I never get far enough to get grands.

Actually, inquistors are quite effective against any non-royal generals. I've had them barbecue 6 star italians. Sure beats taking on 4v ILF, esp in medmod. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

In my current campaign I burned the last Sicilian and the last Italian king with my 6* grand inquisitors. First time I do it, the strongest general becomes king, I fry him and they are gone. Worked quite well. Just try to use more than one Inquisitor.

you can burn royalty with plain inquisitors, but they've got to be high valor, and will only be 25% as effective as an equal valor grandinq. obviously, you'll only want to try to burn royals in fairly high zeal provs, +65% or so.

Inquisitor rush has the advantage of boosting the zeal of the targeted province. My 4 6* grand inquisitors raise the zeal of a province from 0% to 25% or from 50% to 65% in one turn. So you have 90% in no time and the king will burn.
