View Full Version : Building and destroying bridges.
Has anyone seen anything with regards to the ability to build or destroy bridges? I had read months ago that bridges would provide strategic choke points, as armies would have to march along the banks or rivers until they found a suitable crossing (i.e. a bridge).
I’m wondering though, will we be able to build our own bridges to span rivers, or are we limited to those bridges already on the map. That said, will there be the option to destroy bridges? Say a large army is bearing down on one of your cities, and you need to buy time for reinforcements to arrive, the ability to destroy a bridge could be of great tactical importance.
Any word on anything like this? Thoughts?

From what I recall piecing together, roads, bridges and forts are buildable. In one recent article i recall it mentioning that a legion can make a fort. The exact mechanisms and restraints are and will likely remain unknown until release or until someone that has been in beta is allowed to write about the game in practice or answer questions.

It would be quite nice though - an important part of a legionary's life on campaign was spent building encampments, roads, forts and bridges.
Now the question remains if other factions can also build bridges, but I expect they would be able to, or at least have their own way of crossing a river.

Didn't Ol' Julius manage to convince an entire army to surrender once by building a bridge so quickly they thought he was a god? Or am I totally off? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

Of course we have beavers. Some of the biggest beavers in the world live in the baltic countries.
We have too many beavers, now we are shooting them to keep the numbers down http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-yes.gif

How about sending some Estonian beavers over to Denmark? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
Anyway, beavers build dams, not bridges... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-stunned.gif

Otters are better.
and cuter.
I suspect bridges wont be destroyable, or buildable for that matter....
If they are buildable you might only be alowed to build them on shallow crossing anway so it merely upgrades a crossing.

Yes, with MTW's AI you'd get the Rhine with a bridge every 5 km... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cheers.gif
I was thinking more of like 16 bridges together side by side like a najor expressway http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif
the AI sure knows how to blow cash

Well he did build a large bridge crossed into Germania and destroyed enough of their crops to ensure a failed harvest and then cross back into Gaul...
This was to stop the Tribes from assisting the Gauls against the Romans as they had done in the past.
I don't know about destroying bridges, but you can apparently build them.

Well if the river is fordable what would the beavers do to that area of the river. It'd be un fordable that was my point.
So are war beavers gonna be trainable? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
