This is an off-topic forum for lighter topics only. That means certainly no politics. Anything that is suspect to lead to heated discussions does not belong here and will be moved or may even be closed or deleted.
The reason we have this forum is to take away the heat from the Tavern. And we will make sure that happens. Since this is a place for recreation, offensive posting will be seen especially serious.
We should all reflect for a moment on the necessity of this place. It seems that the discussions in the Tavern regularly turn so aggressive that some members decide to avoid the Tavern entirely. I find this strange. I never had the impression that getting personal helps you in any way. If you reach a point where contentfull argumentation doesn´t do it anymore, why not simply stop? I don´t claim that my posts are always free from passion and rage, but if I say things that are inappropriate, I have no problem in saying that I´m sorry. Even when I think what I said was true.
Creating this light topic forum is a way to deal with the problem of heated discussions in the Tavern. But it´s surely not a final solution. The solution cannot come from the Moderators. It must come from the people that post in the Tavern. If you enjoy the discussions in the Tavern, help keeping it a fun place.

You might want to move those stickied topics from the Tavern to here.

I think it is a good idea to have a place to cool off; a place where seriousness is discouraged.
Even though I do not participate as much I still stop by and read the opinions of my contemporaries.
I just feel my centrist views has no place in a heated debate where dichotomy rules. It’s always the right versus the left/ pro-Israel vs. pro Palestinian/American vs. European/ Black and White, etc... there is no room for grey/ thrichotomy/ agnostic... views.

One of the things I liked about the Tavern was the slow turnover and the relatively few topics. Nowadays it’s almost like the entrance hall where you find the last thread you viewed the day before on page three.
A good idea would be to move the lighter topics from the backroom (Tavern) in here.

Will all the light topics be moved here from the Tav?

Not necessarily. The backroom is not politics-only. It´s open for all off-topic discussions.

You know, I've been thinking about the Tavern and I'm starting to believe that the Entrance Hall system of membership may have created a very low flow of new people into the Tavern. This might be what created the dominance of political topics. Only politically-interested members are the ones who see something they'd like to talk about in the Tavern.

It's my opinion that the new Frontroom forum should be open to everyone here, including Junior Patrons. New blood is needed for OT discussions, and this, in my opinion, would be a great way to do it.

It seems that since the families have left the tavern it has turned into a mosh pit.

i believe this was needed as the tavern heated up like it did.
back about 9 months ago the tavern was much better, but right before this was made no non sensitive topic could last a day.
thanks, desmond

Doesn't seem to be so much heated discussions at all here at TotalWar.org. There are so many other strategy games OT forums that have much larger problems.
Even though I can see that the use of a turn-based "strategy" forum and a real time "tactical" forum makes sense. It's a formula that brought us all here in the first place... ~;)

i mean, you gotta admit topics don't come any lighter than that.
