I use windows XP, and have installed the chinese version of STW warlord edition. When I am playing the game, after a few rounds, the game will freeze in the big map. I have tried to close the game and rerun it, after I reload the save, the game will freeze at the same point. Please help me with this, thx a lot

Troubleshooting these problems is not easy. You need to post a lot more info about your PC and game version etc before anyone will have even a chance to help you.

Dont get your hopes up yet. I use a similar system but havent had any major problems.

Here's a couple of thoughts.

Theres a 1.02 beta version available that you should download here (http://www.totalwar.com/community/download.htm)

The 9800 cards can run very hot and crash. This doesnt sound like that but open up your case and see if the game plays a little longer.

I seem to recall that the SB cards were causing some problems. I'll see what I can find. I know my sound is a problem that can sometimes require me to reboot just before playing.

I found this on TW.com It may help, and it wont hurt.

Try decreasing sound hardware acceleration in windows, notch by notch.

You find it here (maybe my translation is not perfectly correct):

Properties -> Sounds and Audio -> Audio

First we stop here and look if the correct sound card is used, there are three folders
Sound replay
Sound recording
MIDI Sound
All of them should show your sound card as the device being in use.

After checking that we advance to the sound hardware acceleration settings:

-> Advanced -> System options

There should be a slider which usually is set to maximum, try decreasing it notch by notch, see what happens. If it does not help try setting the conversion quality to different values too, and then change the acceleration of the card.

Iscaran

I didnt mention it since its kinda obvious but it usually doesnt hurt to have the most up to date drivers.

Bon Chance

http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif Hello tony. SpenceH has some good advice. Another thing to try is changing STW to run in Win98 compatibility mode. If you go for the patch, make sure you get the Asia WE for your system.
