View Full Version : Trade goods that change over time?

Hi folks,

Has anyone kept good notes on which province's trade goods change over time (and how)? For example, I remember seeing a popup quite a few decades into my High game which said that somewhere in the mideast added some new trade goods, but I can't remember just where or what goods.

I'm making an estimate of each province's income due to trade and farming, which I'll post to TotalWar. But I need to know just which ones change, etc., to get it right.

TIA if you can help - Mike

Crimea, Khazar, Portugal, Edessa, Syria and Tripoli all get new trade goods.

I'm not a modder so I can't say whether you can access the events or whether you'll have to play through and note them.

Are you sure about Edessa?
I never noticed that it gets new tradegoods.
But it may be possible that it happens only under certain circumstances, just as with Khazar and Crimea.

Antioch gets 4 and I think Syria also gets new trade goods after the Marco Polo event.

1295 - Marco Polo event; Tripoli and Syria get new trade goods. mentions spices and silk, but not which prov gets what, or if they get both goods.
1367 - Ibn Buttutah; Khazar and Crimea get new trade goods
1434 - Gil Eanes; Portugal gets new trade goods

Looking over the events list (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=20;t=7799) I think yer gonna have a hard time locking down every province's income over time. There are various events that affect income, and the only way to measure them will be to play the game thru and experience the event. Banking Houses (1280) and Public Clocks (1286) both have descriptions that sound as if income will be impacted.

the thing is that marco polo makes tripoli take the highest income crown from antioch as tripoli gets nice trade goods from that event.

Thanks for all the feedback, folks

It sounds like lots of folks are not quite sure what some events do (like Banking Houses and Mastery Of Time), but at least having a straw man to compare it against (if I ever finish this little applet) will help get a handle on it...

Re: 1367 - Ibn Buttutah; Khazar and Crimea get new trade goods - and I see it also listed in the Listing of Special Events thread and on craigh's page (http://www.qis.net/~craigh/MTW/PertinentDates.htm) - but I'm in year 1393 of a Spain High game, and Khazar and Crimea have the same goods as they did back in 1334. Have some of you personally seen this Event? Could it be because I started as Spain or -- ??

I thank you kindly http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif Mike

I've seen it several times, but not every game. I think the Egyptians must still be alive (but I'm not sure) to make it happen.

Other events that have impact on income are children's crusade (-10% in France and HRE, IIRC) and the black death (income decreases everywhere)

thanks cutepuppy... can anyone tell me what the trade goods are in Khazar and Crimea after the event, then? Prior to it (and without it), I see grain in Crimea, and wax, honey & hides in Khazar. Also for that matter, what does Portugal get in 1434? I'm not sure I've ever played a game that far. Currently I see wax and olive oil.

TIA Cheers - Mike

ah... well, you never know... maybe somebody's been really struggling hard the past several hundred years, and a new trade good in Portugal could make all the difference to winning big in those precious last few years http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-dizzy2.gif hehe... seriously, I was just bringing up what the other folks have cited. anyway, if anyone knows Khazar & Crimea's change, that would help.

Spices and silk in Khazar, silk in Crimea.
After that event, Khazar is as rich as Tripoli after Marco Polo (relative value of 160, while Antioch has 140)

If I recall correctly in real life the Portugese began roaming the African cost in the 15th century and discovered new goods as a result. Their travel (and that of spain, england, Italy, France and Holland) eventually led to trips around the world, the discovery of America and a sea route to India and the far east.

I believe I've seen the portugal message before. Didn't it have something to do with Giraffes?

Oh well, It's very logical that there will be new goods in Portugal, even though I've never seen the portugese conquer Europe in my game http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

If you know the dates of the events, you could change the campaign start date to just before that, and play as whatever faction owns the provinces in question. Then you just play through and check the differences between before and after.

This is the message indicating the new trade goods are available:

Thanks to royal patronage and encouragement, the Portuguese Gil Eanes has voyaged far south across the Atlantic Ocean and along the coast of Africa. His success in travelling so far brings glory to the royal house, and opens up new opportunities for welcome trade. There are new trading goods available in Portugal.

Ok, then it's settled. BTW,was there a picture with giraffes?

Nah, it shows a picture of a sailing ship on the seas, caption A long voyage south. And the Marco Polo one (Syria and Tripoli) shows a guy driving a cart. I screencapped'em both, can email you if you want. Maybe the Khazar/Crimea one? I didn't see that one in my current game.
