i wish i had had a camera with me a few other times. i remember one day being up in a chopper over an lz (landing zone) and we called in a napalm strike. you just dont truly get the impact of these things till you see a jet, first hand, come roaring in at low level and dropping that stuff. it's pretty impressive.

ok, here's the deal... since these pics can go overboard at times and i really dont wish to hold anyone up to serious ridicule, and because folks shld be free to post their pics without having them hacked, i will ONLY now alter personal pics of folks that post them in this thread or if someone requests it within another thread.

my intent here is just a little light-hearted fun, but i know these things can spill over at times, or be taken seriously as if i were publicly trying to shame and humiliate someone and that's just not my intent. i look at these as like those cardboard cutout things in the carnivals where the cutout is some wild, exaggerated body and you put your head in the hole and have your picture taken....that sort of humor/fun. but, because you cant pick the cardboard cutout here, i'll leave personal pictures in other threads alone so there's no mistake that this is a fair game area. mind you, i said personal pictures. other stuff is still fair game.

if you really want to be sure, just post something in the same post as your picture and state something like, 'please, no editing or photoshopping' and i'll leave it alone.

this is only me i'm saying this for, not soly or anyone else, so it's still a thing of 'post at your own risk'.

now, a lot of pictures were done in the 'Picture Time' thread. that thread is now safe from me regarding personal pics. we shld have a thread still that is pinned for that sort of stuff, so i wont touch any more of those if they're personal.

also, if you dont want family members or friends and so on altered or included in the alteration, dont post a pic of you with them in it in here.

this is NOT some .org policy thing either. nobody has asked me to do this or said i must. i'm doing this to keep that sort of policy from being necessary and again, because i'm not doing these to hurt anyone. but, for your part, if you post them here, they are fair game ;)

so we had a project involving the mixing of computer games, and when i was viewing the submissions, i noticed a few had used MTW as part of the pic - a real surpirse to me since i had never discussed the game with anyone at work. now that i know there are others here who play, we might have to set up a lan game or something. geeky.

ah, learned a new technique today, soly...or rather, refined it a bit. wish i'd had it a couple days ago when i did that 'sonya liston' pic....translucent layers; great for adding homemade filters and textures. little by little i'm getting better at this.

btw, that p-shop contest i entered...didnt make the top 5 and that's all they posted. tough competition. some of these guys are damned good, so no regrets about not winning. the choices they made were pretty darn good.

i've also been watching this guy on screensavers that shows techniques with photoshop. that guy is REAL good. and watching him work with photoshop, i can see that it way outclasses paint shop pro. never realized there was such a big difference in the two programs. tempted to get p-shop now, even with the stiff price tag.

That last one...maybe you should shrink it's physical size. Not only is it pixelated, but at that resolution - even on my puny 15" monitor, the editing work shown by the discoloration around the mole is obvious, and the eyebrows have a slightly less obvious case of the same thing...

Your pictures are much more tame than what BigKing could find by himself and many actually contribute to his understanding of artistry. I just read about this in another newsmagazine - the medical treatment was a purple tincture against some fungus on the bear's skin.

That would explain why you also see some of the color in the cage.

In the original versions it's not Medusa's glare that turns you to stone, it's her hideous uglyness, so yes they often depict gorgons with beards and stuck out tongues. Of course those attrractive naked women with snake for hair are a much more enticing proposition for modern artists...

this is a test to see if i can get this thing to display here. if it works, beware, it's a large file, 4.5 megs, so 56k'ers beware. it's also prolly best for all to let the entire thing load before hitting the 'play' button.

edit: removed for bandwidth considerations. if you really want to see it again, i can post it up again for a bit.

this is my first attempt at Flash animations, so bear with. i'm still learning how to get this stuff published right, and this version isnt it, but it will show you the animation when you click on the link. but, to kill it, for now, you'll have to just kill the whole window. i had to do some idiot work-arounds for my lack of knowledge on this yet.

Nice flash project, Kraellin. You found a lot of Marilyn Monroe pics. Did you do all the re-sizing yourself? And where'd you pick up the Flash editor?

thanks kukri :) was beginning to think nobody watched it, being there were no comments on it.

yes, i did a lot of pre-flash work in paint shop pro, editing the various pics. most of the pics i found through google and the music is from the game Morrowind, the intro music. so, basically, everything is ripped off from someone :)

as for the flash itself, i used macromedia flash mx trial version. it's the full version of flash with no limitations on features, but does have a 30 day trial limit. i may just go ahead and buy the full version. still debating.

Flash seems pretty workable, but has some odd interface things i dont like and the learning curve is somewhat steep, but it does do a LOT of stuff, so that's to be expected. and it does come with a lot of help files, tutorials, lessons and so on, so that helps. but i did have a bit of trouble at the end in the publishing/compiling, which is why i ended up posting the thing like i did. i've only been at it for about 7 or 8 days, so it's a bit early to say whether it's me and my ignorance of the thing or the thing itself. i've still got 15 days left on the trial, so we'll see :)

i did some looking around on my harddrive, kukri. seems i already had Swish 2.0 downloaded from a while back. this is one of the johnny come latelys in the Flash game and only costs $49.95. i havent installed it yet, so i cant compare it to Flash yet, but at one tenth the cost, if it only does half of what Flash does, then it's a bargain, comparitively. it also saves its final product out in the same format as Flash Mx so that anyone that has the Flash viewer can also read Swish files. i may have to try it...sort of the paint shop pro of photoshop.

i also found i have a microsoft program that came bundled with this computer that does similar things. this would seem to be the MS Paint of the Flash type stuff and i got it free with this computer. i tried it out a bit yesterday, and it did seem to do the basic loading of images and music and putting them on a timeline to make a movie. it's called 'Movie Maker'. but i'm not sure what format it outputs the files as or what media player will play it yet.

but, being as Movie Maker is free, and as i'm still a novice in this stuff, i may just play with this one for a while. seems to be pretty easy to work with and a much smaller learning curve. of course, it wont be as full-featured as Flash Mx, but hey, that's fine for now.

i also went onto Tucows and looked at the Flash type downloads. there's quite a few in there, but none of them looked as good as Swish or Flash Mx and most of them had a pricetag i didnt really feel was warranted. i suppose if i was really feeling ambitious, i could just take visual basic and make my own :)

Sounds like "Swish" might be the way to go.

I've used Windoze Movie Maker to edit pre-existing scenes on VCD's, DVD's & digiHome movies. Clumsy, but workable. (And the price was right). But I haven't tried to use it to create original content.

My idea for Kukri's first flash-type project is to get mug-shots of the hundred or so candidates (LA Times has most of them) and have them fade-in and fade-out kind of quickly (ala your Marilyn piece), to the tune of Buffalo Springfield's For What It's Worth (you remember: "Somethin' happenin' here...what it is ain't exactly clear..."). Whatcha think?

Greg what do you mean by the original picture? That illustration is i htink from a Nick Secunda (or Sekunda) book. It's a reconstruction so if you mean where can you find a full frontal view of precisely htat shield design I'm not sure. If you want I can see if i can find you something similar of ancient Greek origin, but the Greek representations tend to be on pottery and rather primitive.

All that said the image with the red tongue looks familiar from somehwere so you might stirke lucky.
