I'm thinking about buying Shogun: Total War and therefore I downloaded the demo, which looks very promising indeed.

One thing worries me however. Whenever I engage the enemy, they give me a total thrashing.

What I'd like to know is therefore: Are the enemy units in the demo superior to my units, in being of a higher level or something like that? If not, then I doubt I've got what it takes to succeed in this game.

Please enlighten me.

Konnichiwa,

I don't know whether the units in the demo have the same strenght, but in the full game you'll have access to more units (naginata, warriormonks, guns to name a few).

I was trashed when I started playing too and trashed again. After a while you get the hang of the game and you'll beat the AI regularly.

I play online for 1.5 years now, and the AI is trashed by me in most cases (10:1 and up).

I'm still trashed in online games without allies to save me though.

Shogun:Totalwar will offer you many hours of pleasure, there's no other software title which offer battles like that.

Oh well, why not. After all, it were some very beautiful thrashings, even though I was at the receiving end of them.

I'll go buy it. See you on the field.

Yeah, go buy it. I got my ass kicked pretty bad at first too... now the AI is a joke.
