View Full Version : Hand picked units
Since each man in a unit has there own experience, I'm wondering if I had 1000 legionaires and picking the best men out of each unit and have a 100 man unit that would be the best of the best.

i dont think so.
Would be cool though, that way if the game was modded to the Persian wars the Immortals can maintain their 10,000 troops with veteren soldiers instead of raw recruits.

It would make the game far too easy if they that... Come on guys, we want the challenge http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I dont think it would be much easier... the AI would do that as well, so... And it qould add som more accuracy and realism...

Not really because you could create ultra high valour Jedi units... Kind of like the Jedi Byz Kats and heirs were in MTW.
Plus the AI wouldn't be able to use such units as efficiently as a human and will get slaughtered.
Giving you the ability to create hard troops like that to use is bound to make it far too easy to finish.
Forget that level of realism, I want a challenge

Well, if you just dont want to do it, you dont have to. But it would be a nice feat to have... That way you could protect some key points on the battlefield.
Let me remind you again, Hannibals victory at Cannae. Elite troops at the flanks, and they did a really good job.
BTW, what I would expect for a challenge is a better combat AI, instead of giving human players peasant-like troops.
In any case, you can always give yourself a challenge fighting with, say peasants only. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-2thumbsup.gif

The current valour system works well enough as it is (except the bit where command effects troop valour)
At any rate in MTW if you merged two depleted high valour units you would get a higher valour unit at the end of it, so we already have that ability...

Hannibal's troops at Cannae were elite because they were trapped in Italy fighting for several years without any hope of reinforcement from Carthage... Any unit that fights long enough in MTW will get high valour, as I say you can already merge depleted high valour units and that covers this.

Still it is quite restrictive, coz you can just merge big portions of units. Anyway, Im not saying you had to use it, but the feature is good enough. And for fighting Jedi units, you could have another Jedi unit.Or two.
What could be added is "battlefield emissaries" so you could bribe enemy units in the battlefield and see them stabbed from behind.... specially on those huge battlefields...

For 1 thing I think the comp will do much better in tactics in RTW. Also I think routing and morale is going to be different. For 1 thing there may be morale penalties with generals but definately not as drastic as MTW, I hope and think the game won't be as crazy as the coward and always retreats vice. Now this would also make that unit a target. Just last night I had 2 feual sergeants with 3 valour and the rest of my troops were 1 valour with the generals star. the general had 4 valour but was in the back and unable to be targeted by archers. The Egyptians had 3 units of futawas and targeted 1 of the 3 valour units taking them from 100 men down to about 50 before they even engaged and only lost 10 more men when they had enegaged.
So this could also be a handicap in RTW as you can lose all your elitest troops on a battlefield.
Now wouldnt that suck if the comp gets a loser unit on your elite troops to pin it down and then either wait for units that can handle that unit or put them under fire.
