Nice idea Scoony. If there is a subject you feel deserves its own topic, feel free to do so as well. Also, don't feel restricted to what is being discussed in the Tavern.

this is to post in this thread (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST&f=33&t=16285):

Halo on legendary mode is probably one of the hardest things (gamewise) that I've ever had to do. It's nearly impossible to get through some of the areas where there is open fighting, because it's absolutely imperative to find cover. My advice, find cover, anything, and toss grenades like a madman. Also I would recommend using the assault rifle, but you have to have goood aim with it because the accuracy can be a little off...

thanks in advance to whoever posts this http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Historical accuracy should be a very important part of such an immersive game as any in the Total War series. There are limits and I realize that if you were to take the most realistic approach that there would be many potential buyers left out because they just don't want to have to wait for their civilians to produce enough soldiers so that they can take over one more province. There are extremes to every situation - but there is a very good balance.

The Age of... series was brought up - go and play the newest one Age of Mythology, or download the demo. It has many units Norse, Egyptian and Greek which all have their original names - like the Greek units are: Toxote, Hypaspist, Hoplite, Hippikon, Peltast, Promodromos...... the list goes on and on - that's just the Greeks.

The point is that most people (including me when I started playing it) have/had NO idea what the units were. There were some people on the forums that said that it was confusing and that they'd rather have just Archer, Calvary.... titles and not the whole Historical Accurate deal that eventually happened (thank goodness); they were a minority. Also there are so many things to learn about a lot of Historically based games that I've played like the Civilization series, Age of... series and the Total War series. You can't just pick any of them up and expect to win every time unless it's on easy - sure you can, but most of the time you ahve to learn a little about each faction, what units you're using and their Historical strengths and weaknesses. If the Game developer feels like it they can be crafty and make it so that if you choose to - you can learn more about the unit than just that it has +2 Attack vs Calvary but can read the whole history of the unit, where they originated and so on. Having the correct name for the units really seems like a no brainer and I'm dying thinking that they're going to go the Warcraft route..... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif

THen again, it is their game - they are putting the effort into the game. Perhaps their core fans will change from those that are really into History to a group that are really into flaming pigs and gay forresters.... not that there's anything wrong with that.

well, personally i don't know anything about when caltrops were invented, but wouldn't the elephants just be able to navigate around them? i mean wouldn't you be able to see them on the ground? in that TC video about the battle of raphia, the elephants didn't seem over-powered or anything. i don't see the need for flaming pigs or caltrops if they keep them like they were in that video..

well, for the way i play the campaigns, i need look no further than the all-purpose Dogs:

You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to
So that when they turn their backs on you
You'll get the chance to put the knife in.
You gotta keep one eye looking over your shoulder
You know it's going to get harder, and harder, and harder as you get older

and later in the game..

And when you loose control, you'll reap the harvest that you've sown

and of course if i'm the almohads or egyptians my battlecry would be Get Your Filthy Hands Off My Desert

i think it would be cool if you could kill the riders on elephants. there should be some probability of just killing the rider when you attack elephants with ranged weapons. the elephant of the dead rider(s) would just automatically rout away from nearby people.

also, why not include the chisel and hammer idea for routed elephants that have riders.. would be a way to kill them if they are ruining your own units. like rally, it could be a choice that is available for routed units only.

as for caltrops.. i feel like they'd be a little hard to implement. maybe they could be dropped over a certain area (by dragging a box) in pre-battle deployment if you are defending, as long as the attacker has a chance to see them (with the aforementioned 'twinkle' or something). whatever it takes to get rid of the flaming pigs http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/ceasarno.gif

Could someone post this to this thread:
http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin....t=19182 (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=7;t=19182)

Topic: Billmen or Chiv Sarges?, Or both?

How can you mod Almughavars to become available to build in Aragon or Castile? What files do you have to change?

OK lads...I let this slide for a week now, but we all know better, right? This is the Entrance Hall, not the locker room. And this thread is for JP's to use to transfers posts. Let's not clutter it up with silliness, bordering on deleteable content.

Thanks, fellas. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-2thumbsup.gif

for here (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=35;t=19732;st=25):

You have escaped damnation and made it to Purgatory, a place where the dew of repentance washes off the stain of sin and girds the spirit with humility. Through contrition, confession, and satisfaction by works of righteousness, you must make your way up the mountain. As the sins are cleansed from your soul, you will be illuminated by the Sun of Divine Grace, and you will join other souls, smiling and happy, upon the summit of this mountain. Before long you will know the joys of Paradise as you ascend to the ethereal realm of Heaven.

Made it into Purgatory, but just barely, probably due to my homicidal tendencies http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

This is for Duke John's War of the Roses expansion in the Engineer Guild.

Duke John

I have downloaded the beta version and tried the battles. The unit graphics are absolutely awsome Unlike certain units in MTW they actually look like what they're supposed to be and are not guys with headbands and football t-shirts http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-jester.gif

The balance strikes me as very even. Cavalry outright sucks. Most factions have the same units so the battles become like a chess game with longbows, billmen and pikes. All in all this seems a very close historical representation of the civil war.

I would have liked to see a campaign map but as I understand this is being tied in with Two Crowns but I still hope for the best in developing this unique mod.
