View Full Version : RTW Scenarios
Aside from the grand campaign, do we know what scenarios will be provided?
Spartacus and Caesar in gaul have been mentioned from time to time, I believe.
Are these two the extent of it?

They have said there will be historical campaigns as well as the individual historical battles.
So we will also be treated to Hannibal's campaign among many others.
Who knows what other battles they choose to include, the Romans against Phillip of Macedon, maybe some battles between the successor kingdoms like the battle of Raphia?
I sure hope they include most of the Time Commander's battles.

Wasn't Actium a naval battle?
In a Gamespy (I think) preview, they describe one historical battle which is obviously Teotoborgerwald. The fun part is, you play as the the Romans. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-inquisitive.gif

Yes, it was a naval battle... So I wonder how that will be presented if it is indeed in the game.
What is so odd about playing the Romans? You have this army and you have to get X% of it to someplace. You will not know where the Germanians are or when or how they will attack. That should be much more fun that just ambushing the AI.

I think I heard that there would be 'mini' campaigns, which have a campmap, but which covers a smaller area of the map, like the invasion of Gaul or something, I dunno.
Is this true or just a rumour? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
I think those "mini-campaigns" that had only a smart of the strategic map were supposed to be in the game in the beginning but somewhere along the way they dropped them and now it is only historical scenarios. Luckily you can play the historical scenarios in multiplayer too so you can try both sides
Well, they haven't mentioned the minicampagins for some time. At least we still have the tutorial minicampaign...
I think it is too early to conclude the minicampaigns are out.

Maybe Antony Vs Octavian is going to be a mini campaign?

If that's true, I would assume that's what they mean.
As for Teutoborg- They said you first watch helplessly as the Germanians charge out of the forest at you- (Does anyone else realize that this is how ambushes work now? It just hit me. It's the "new type of battle" they've been talking about.) Anyways, that means you start the battle with the odds stacked against you. So either it's a large hill, or it's one of those impossible battles. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

Maybe there's a baggage train and camp followers you have to protect? Although that's probably just wishful thinking.

Guys - I believe I've read just about everything on-line having to do w/ R:TW and I don't recall the mention of Actium at all. Besides - with abstract naval battles - what would be the point anyway?
Barkhorn.
I haven't heard about Actium either... But it would seem as a good candidate for a minicampaign (in this I mean Octavian vs Mark Anthony). It would be at the end of the game and it would include a state of civil war. The variety of troops might not be great, but it would be interesting I'm sure.
RisingSun I have concluded that myself.
Even if the ambushing forces started out almost on top of you, you would always have the pause button... That would be more than enough to hold off an ambush in most cases I believe. So for te ambush to be effective the army should be out of my hands for a while... A minute seems like too much, while 30 seconds seems like too little.

Octavian vs Antony would be sick, but I'm really hoping for Pharsalus. That and ... arg, I can't remember the name, the one where Caesars Legions lay siege to Vercingetorix's fortress and his allies betray him. Bugger, I guess I'm just stupid.

Are you talking about Alesia?
Actually the Gaul campaign was mentioned as a minicampaign back when I heard about it the first time. So if they are still there, then we should expect this one.
