View Full Version : New tactics for french..??
I played whit French first time after I had get VI. And now I want new tactics. France docent have any new units like Fyrdymen or Swabian swordsmen. Hoppilars are expensive and old unit since everyone has good light cavalry units. I have used Early rush to get Burgundy Provence and Loraine. After warning I made peace whit Germans and Defeated English,But they still have Mercia Wales Scotland and Northumbria.
My problem is lack of allies and money. I now how get those but I would have to stop advancing. Still Italians tarted war against me and are losing now Milan and Genoa.
Pope docent like me and is demanding to stop war against England. They wont sing ceasefire. That makes me siting duck. Spain is waiting whit 3 crusades and so is Arragon Italy has two in Venice one going to Kiev.
So what should I do... I have large army and I have 4000 florins whit 569 per year.
And this is Early game... And one tip about which provinces I should be aiming for is appreciated.
well definantly don't build any feudal knights or you'll be biting chapter 11 fairly quickly they've got something like 105 florins a turn support costs. you need to outgeneral your opponents as you've no new units. You seem to over rate the new units. Fyrdmen are the same as your feudal sergeants. The HRE is unlikely to marshall enough resources to build any Swabians before the end of early. So do what the French have always done, line up your cav and charge supported by your sergs and fmaas. These tactics will allow you to destroy the English who have the same troops as you. On an important note, youhold land on both the North andSouth oceans, so you have better trade oppurtunities than the English or Hre. If you reach, Scotland or Ireland before the English, you can get clansmen or gallows whisch will err.. lead the English and anybosy else into the Gallows http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-jester.gif
As the french, should you capture norway or better yet sweden, you can get Huscarles http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif They will show the arrogant Germans and English what they're missing out on, they're like VGs and everybody knows how good they are.
You want to kick the English out of France it's honour. Also Genoa is good for the ever great sailors, good cheap upkeep bowmen. The royal family should form your main charge line.
On a very important note, ask Katank very nicely, and he will give you some great tips on his blitz style of MTW, with great tctics like the Eggy sultan ransom scam, you'll have a lot of cash and cripple your enemies http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-2thumbsup.gif So KATANK WHERE ARE YOU? A TW PLAYER NEEDS YOU
Off topic yay 10th post
I'm at year 1112 and I have well France + wessex,Genoa and Milan. Money Is not Problem... But my current situation is... I dont have allies and Im in war against Italy and England...My armies includes lots of mercs... I want to lose them But I would also lose big and important part of my army.Im trying get rid of them and have better and cheaper army. This still is going to take it´s time.My navy is getting bigger and Im getting my trading going...If there is at least someone who would like me... The unit thing is that sooner or later Im going to pis of Pope and there is so many crusades... I need some good cheap units...
This makes me go for war against Germany and Danmark I should also take out Arragon....
I have no assassins so my question must be...If I have warning from Pope (england) But I have no peace treaty whit them....dos it count as warning and do I have 10turn window to attack against other catholic factions...?
here I am.
well, see France section in guide forums.
my suggestion is using Brittany and Toulouse forces to hit Aquitaine first turn and Hit Anjou with everything else on the first turn.
you have enough to force withdrawal in both cases.
storm aquitaine and this should give you facility to pump hobilars which are excellent light cav early and and is dirty cheap at 125 florins.
these boys rock at early rushing and will absolutely destroy rabble on flank charge.
leave token peasant to guard Flanders.
build towers everywhere except for flanders whcih shoudl go for inn.
invade normandy on second turn and use 5* hero that came out as UM from Ile De France to reinforce Flanders.
get enough peasants to guard all provinces and move good troops to invade France.
hire up merc force led by 5* for attack and follow up with King leading starting units.
Note: Bribing Wales yield nice longbows which can help you hit Mercia at the same time as Wessex and thus not give time for a breather.
this way, it's quite doable to avoid excomm.
if excommed, kill the HRE as they are going to attack you sooner or later.
otherwise, sit back and build up for ships to fulfill Krak GA.
I wouldn't ever leave the English alive.
take all of the British isles.
I have always attacked against HRE first...First Burgundy then Provence then Lorraine... This gives me change to deal whit England Whit ease since Hre has So many neighboring provinces and relatively small army after that..England dosent have enough big army to stop me and Inn is very good for early rush but dont get carried away.

Alliances suck, don't get them. The only advantage they give is that you and your ally can help eachother out, but that's rare. Mostly they'll just backstab you even earlier anyway, and when you attack them it'll cost you a hefty amount of influence.

oh wow, wiping out the english and winning in an ally war with those blokes seems the 1st best logical move,
WIPE THEM OUT

I dunno if this advice is pertinent for VI, since I've played medmod for so long, but you should always rush the Aragonese (after you kill the english) before they can backstab you. Easy to avoid excom because Aragonese have only one prov. Also, see if you can take out the spanish depending on situation with almos. Ally with almos, and stab the spanish in the back when they are at war with the almos. Preferably do this immediately after your war with aragon, usually your king dies during the war with spain, so any excom goes away http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif
If the almos are not at war with spain, and you can't provoke one, attack HRE, and send them in civil war. Divide it with the poles and the italians. Either way, you should have a fairly nice trading (HRE) or agricultural (spain) empire, and the rest of the game should be pretty easy.
so true.
Aragonese are programmed to go for Toulouse.
So satisfy their curiosity with fighting your units by bringing the fight to them
Also, the Spanish seem programmed to go for Valencia and leave Castille not heavily guarded so just charge into their homeland for good measure.
wipe em off the face of the earth and use the early church to get a chapter house to hit the almos and do crusade run.
