Unlike RTW armies will not fight in provinces. Instead they move around like Civ3 units and meet each other in battle. By doing so how do we know which side will be defending and attacking?
Also another question about Auxilary units. When playing as the Romans and we invade Germania will we be able to build special germanic auxillary infantry and cavalry? SO each province has its own distinct auxillary units we can build. And we can only build legionnaires in them after "culturising" them?

I can only answer the first so here goes:
First its pretty obvious whose attacking or defending depending on whose turn it is during the game.
So for example if its the CPU's turn, and he ordered to attack a unit of yours then your automatically the defender.
Well I have a different opinion on whos attacking and whos defending. It really does'nt matter, its who initiates the battle. Of course the defender is always the one defending there land but I remember the marathon episode of time commanders when they told how it really happened. The Greeks were dedending there land but did they wait for the Persians to come to them no they attacked first. So really hopefully there is some good A.I in RTW.

Hello C A ,
One question
Could you make it possible to be able to play the game with a joystick ? if we prefer .
This way movement around the battlefeild can be more accurate & quicker , more flowing battles instead of pausing for camera adjustments .
Please consider , a mouse is 2D , Joysticks is the way to go.
In the latest gamestar video it seems as if both sides can deploy their troops, unlike the previous titles where only one was able to do so.
For the ones whom haven't seen it yet, go to TWC fora (http://www.legiontotalwar.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3668) or the main link (http://www.legiontotalwar.com/forums/index.php?act=idx) incase you haven't registered at TWC yet.
It shows a Roman army trying to make a demand (if I'm correct), but the enemy refuses to go in with it and the Romans send an army to engage. When the battle starts the Romans (whom were attacking) could deploy their forces.

Did I really said this? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-surprised.gif This might conflict with my Historical Accuracy statements... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-cry.gif
I want the eles to be AOK style and cpable of getting antibuilding bonuses.
I want to smash a path into a citadel with purely elephants

The player is House of Julii, controlling northern Italy & sends an emmisary to meet with a Senate general.
He then offers to attack the Selucid Empire & is offered several thousand Dinarii reward (I think).
He then scrolls right to a fleet near Albania/Montenegro (presumably blocking a trade route) & unloads the carried army onto the land next to a Selucid army, which he then attacks.
The elephants did mondo damage http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-speechless.gif but those expecting flaming pigs to be the panacea of all elephants are gonna be dissapointed I think, since the pigs seem to pretty much run the wrong way & fail to scare the elephants.
On a side note regarding elephants, in the Gamespot 'trailer 4', when it shows elephants charging into Roman cavalry, most of the bodies flying are actually those of presumably friendly/allied green barbarians who were fighting the Roman cavalry http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-oops.gif
With all the amazing things that CA managed to get into Rome, its cruel that the most important thing has been left out & not even attempted: Multiplayer Campaign http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

Well, the first is easy, because the engine obviously must take care of all the data concerning attackers and defenders.
The second has been explained in the IGN interviews, where the CA staff stated that as you advance into new territory and incorporporate it into your own realm, you will be able to raise auxiliary or mercenary units.
I do hope a region has more than only its regional capital... it would be a real pity if the only settlement in a region would be the regional capital. Next to taking possible fortifications that were built by the enemy, all you would have to do was stragetically outmanoeuvre the enemy army to get to the regional capital: region conquered. A lot better than MTW, but CA could easily go further. Think 3 settlements max. in a province.
