View Full Version : Regional Income
Hi Everyone
Tricky Lady and myself have produced a regional income and province speciality file that you may find useful. It is based on VI: Early at 1087 startup.
:Region Incomes (http://www.totalwar.org/Downloads/Mtw_Uploads/MTWupload/Yakobu_region_info_010604_FAQ.zip)
Columns A-N show the summary with Columns P-Z showing working.
Note:
Farming is the figure in the MTW directory * 52/100 which is proved back to the starting position in 1087 taking into account kings acumen. This doesn't work as well on rebel provinces.
Trade Goods are valued as per the figures in the MTW directory. Note some provinces gain further trade goods as game progresses and these are shown.
Please let me know your thoughts on any mistakes or potential improvements.

Nice initiative, thank you YAKOBU and Tricky Lady http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif
It will certainly come handy from time to time.
Regards,
EC

Need to check the trade goods again tonight as Anjou shows 2 and Northumbia 1, I know in my games it's the other way round on the map Not in till 10pm so bear with me http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif
Thanks YAKOBU and Tricky Lady. No doubt this will come in handy.
High everyone
Slight amendment needed, Northumbria should have wool (30) and fish (20). I will update the file and reload tomorrow.

Thought I'd de-lurk and say good job on the file. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-2thumbsup.gif I've actually been working on my own with the same sort of information but it's not quite finished yet and I'm including the provincial titles as well for reference. Your's will certainly help fill in my blanks though. :)
Question about the trade goods though, how/where did you derive their values from? I've been basing my tradable good values on their 'normal' tax rate with only a trading post (no governor). Commodoties like wood, butter and saltfish I get a base rate of 10 florins and any subsequent trade upgrades seems to increase their values by 20%. Maybe I'm missing something? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-dizzy2.gif
Hi Opeth
The information is in the MTW directory campmap/startpos in the Early text file, about 1/6th of the way down. There is also other information in there that may help you. My figure ignores tax or upgrades as trade is difficult to value but the base gives you an idea how profitable a regions trading could be.
I'm thinking of maybe adding region specialities (i.e. valour bonuses).

Thanks, I'll have another look in the file tonight but somehow I can never find it. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif I can find the section on what provinces have what goods but nothing else. Adding valour bonuses would be helpful I think too, never crossed my mind adding that. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-wall.gif

Hello Opeth. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif It is about time you de-lurked. Now that you have, you gonna stay that way?

Thanks for the welcome. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-smile.gif I hope to stay in my delurked state and add to the discussions. There is always something new to learn about MTW, that's why I love it so much and is one of my all time favourite games. It's like Powermonger on steroids http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Hi everyone
I have now corrected Northumbria trade and you can check the file on the link at the beginning.
Can people let me know what they think of the file? I am thinking of adding region specialities (i.e. valour bonuses) but don't want the sheet to get too clogged up.
Sorry Opeth didn't officially welcome you............. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif WELCOME to the org I'm new myself and only have a high post count due to the 1 word story and the word association game

Good initiative, indeed
I think the valour bonuses would be a nice addition. Maybe you can also add the 'new tradegoods' (the ones that appear over time in certain provinces).
Just an idea, though.

Good deal, Yakobu... a nice summary
I'm working on an applet that will let you checkmark which ports you own and which are available for trade, and it will calculate your trade income. As we all know, the trade system is fairly straightforward... but a pain to simulate Thus there's no good statement of combined farm+trade income (of course, the trade income would change tons, depending on conditions anyway... but my simulator would allow for that). Still, we all know the best regions, shrug.
One small suggestion: Next time you revise your .xls, put the cursor in B4 and then /Window /Freeze panes. This will make the region and column headings always visible, regardless of scrolling.
In case it helps / you don't already have it down, trade goods that change over time are (kudos to garion, cutepuppy, Schro, katank and others in my trade goods thread):
1295 - Marco Polo; Tripoli and Syria add spices and silk
1367 - Ibn Battutah; Khazar adds spices and silk, Crimea adds silk
1434 - Gil Eanes; Portugal adds cotton and spices
Other econ events: Banking Houses (1280) and Public Clocks (1286) sound like income is impacted; Children’s Crusade (1211) farm income in France and HRE (-10%?); The Plague (1346) all income reduced (%?).

(it was on page 2)
Hi everyone
Just letting you know Tricky Lady and myself have updated this file and relinked it at the start of this thread.
Valour bonuses and new trade goods over time are now shown - hope that makes cutepuppy and RedKnight happy. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif
Also done the freeze pane RedKnight but was happy myself just to print it out for ease of use.
Thanks RedKnight for the information for other trade goods http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif, although I didn't feel the need to show the other economic events.
Finally 2 questions for the moderators:
Is this worthy of sticking on the guides section and highlighting so it stays on the 1st page?? I can update it with other suitable information if needed.
I now have 3 files on the org with a link to the last revision. How do I delete the 1st two??
Hope you all find it useful http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Thanks for that update, Tricky Lady and Yakobu Excellent work, as always, you two Right, the other economic events are too much hassle to include.
Here's (http://home.speedfactory.net/mikestar/ProvinceIncomeModel.xls) a slightly different look at the picture - a model of income from provinces, all things held equal (acumen 5 governor and king, 80% farm, master merchant for ports, trading post for inland; MS Excel 2000 file). It lets you see what are the best income provinces in general, all things equal. Of course they never are in a real game (nor would you want them to be), but anyway, it can be useful to know, in theory. You can use it to see what will be best in the future (when everything's built), to assign your best governor.
For the model, I assumed ports could trade with half the other ports in the game (i.e., 20), but also blocking due to other ports selling the same good, is included.
Anybody want to see anything else with this? The code's all set up, so I can make variations. (I dump it out of Access into Excel.)
YAKOBU, what happened to the link? It doesn't work anymore.
I'd love to see it, but I'm getting a file not found error. Can you double check that the link is currently working?
thanks
Tricky Lady

As I contributed a bit to YAKOBU's document, I have a copy too.
I'll put it online until YAKOBU returns.
You can temporarily consult the file over here.
As said, I'll remove this link within a few days, when YAKOBU's file is back online.
Cheers,
TL
Edit: I checked the link. It works fine. Just give me a sign if anyone of you can't see it.
Edit2: LINK REMOVED.
Cheers Tricky Lady http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif
I think the file gets moved after a few days to a more permanent residence but I can't locate it.
I've mailed Barocca to see if he can locate it for me.
Will let you know when all is OK.
Thanks for stepping in http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Hi everyone http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif
The original link at the start of the thread is now fixed. Once the file is checked it is moved to a different directory, hence the delay in me locating it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-computer.gif
If anyone has any problems accessing it please let me know.
Thanks again Tricky http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif You can now move your link as it is an older version and does not contain your +1 valour work.
Hi everyone http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif
I'm thinking of adding provincial titles to the sheet but not titles of office. This would be useful for me in obtaining/allocating command/acumen titles.
Let me know if this would interest people.

I have the provincial titles listed in my own spreadsheet if you're interested. I've also recorded all the Catholic titles but I think they are different for Orthodox/Muslim factions?
Won't be able to send it off until tonight though when I get home from work.
That would be great Opeth http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif

Okay...here is my spreadsheet for provincial titles (download from here (http://users.bigpond.net.au/gordow/prov_titles.xls)).
All the titles are Catholic based (no Muslim ones sorry) and I've noticed that any title with the work 'Duke' in it sometimes has a different loyalty rating. Seems to be titles for provinces not originally owned by your faction.
If there are any errors, please let me know. Feel free to add the sheet to your spreadsheet Yakobu too.
Cheers Opeth http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif
Have added it to my sheet but will need to link from work this afternoon. I think you missed off Cordoba (Loyalty 1).

Hi everyone
The regional information file now contains a column for the provincial title attributes i.e. Command ©, Loyalty (L) etc. The updated file can be located using the link at the beginning of this thread.
My thanks go to Opeth for this additional information .
Can you let me know if any information is incorrect or if the link isn't working as the link will need updating when the moderators check and move the file.

Have you uploaded it to our files section? Also, this might be something to include in the Guides section. Send a PM to frogbeastegg about including it in the Guides forum. I'd think the post there should include a description of use for the file and then a link to downloading it.
