Newbie Question

Hello everyone

I'm new to this game and this site. I just bought the game a couple weeks ago and have been addicted ever since. My wife is ready to divorce me and my 9 month year old is already bored of watching from my lap...not enough action.

But anyway...now to the important stuff. I was playing my second real campaign and I'm playing as Irish on hard. After a slow start in which the Vikings pillaged me for a few years I was finally building up. It was around 915 AD and I was finishing off the Scots in two epic battles. My next move would have been to break my alliance with the Picts and take all of northern England. I was looking very good though.

Well after my battle ended my King up and dies at 55 years old. His two sons were 13 and 11 but he had like 5 brothers scattered around the islands. The game said with no heirs that the kingdom was split up and I lose I was so shocked that the game ended so suddenly. Four days all for not But my question is...the manual said if I had brothers than I can continue. Why didn't then with four other brothers to rule??

are you sure they were brothers?

if so, they should take the throne.

check the list by clicking on the crown in the lower right hand corner.

there should be a list of royals with the current first in line highlighted in red.

if they are just mounted nobles, they could be uncles or great uncles and not brothers.

if you don't want your four days wasted (the next time) use the autosave to go back a few turns. if you get lucky this time your king will live a few years younger, enough for you to get a new king

... but not if its a fresh VI install with the 56-year death bug.

If the brothers were older than the king then they died at 56 just as he did leaving you heir-less.

This is a result of a change (ahem = bug) from the original game where all generals (including kings and heirs) dies at 56 years of age. The latest patch eliminates this problem and thereby makes it less likely that you'll run into the problem of dying heirless.

I don't think you have to start over agian, just patch it and use the autosave-trick again
