Very nice
and
Quote[/b] ]Developers, Simpson said, created all the battles in the battle editor (a tool for customizing game scenarios) and choreographed the confrontations to happen exactly as they did historically.
And does that mean we are getting our own battle editor with the game ?
That would be absolutely fantastic http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-yes.gif

A pity the show is just a straight ahead re-creation of the battle. I was looking forward to:
"Next up on the History Channel, can a grup of ex-Survivor contestants survive an encounter with Caesar?? Tune in and see".
~ or perhaps a celebrity version:
"Next on the History Channel, we know the're fabulous on Bravo, but can the Queer Eye Guys tackle the Greeks under Alexander??" "Sure gonna try (wink, wink)", says Carson.

I'm disappointed. I wanted TC, not some silly re enactment. The best part was not knowing who would win Though they have a blurb at the end about a third show.

Yeah half the fun of TC was watching how the silly generals made gaping mistakes leaving you yelling at the TV
The battle is easily summarised by the two historical guys at the end moving the blocks around... and it only took about five minutes
Even so this will be a good chance for them to test the game engine's abilities out. I wonder how well they can recreate a battle such as Cannae?

You took the words out of my mouth...
The old lines of various colours were good enough to show how battles were fought... This is just overkill somehow. I loved to sit and laugh at stupid actions or be positively surprised by individuals and their actions (Raphia anyone).
It will of course be great PR, but still, so would a TC.
It wouldn't be that hard to recreate Cannae, just give the flanktroops very good valour.

Hannibal's entire force should possess superior valor and gain a marked boost in morale thanks to Hannibal's experience, reputation and natural leadership qualities. When you consider that the massive Roman consular army that fought Hannibal at Cannae was comprised almost entirely of inexperienced infantry flanked by Rome's notoriously mediocre cavalry then Hannibal's lopsided victory isn't so surprising. Tactics aside, Hannibal's troops had, on the whole, a marked edge in experience, training and discipline.

Yes the victory wasn't so surprising, but remember that he bagged more than 70% of the enemy army. It is that he is remembered for not the victory itself.
And btw the Gauls were not that experienced, and they constituted the main part of his frontline. The risk of a loss was very much there.
But will the R:TW engine be able to recreate Hannibals convex formation falling back under pressure into a concave one?
I don't think so, or at least not the way its shown in books.
