View Full Version : King = Steward really 10% to all farm income?

I'm doing a simulation of province income. There's a big question that came up in the Econ 101 thread and cutepuppy's analysis of income. Namely, if the king has e.g. the Steward virtue (10% to farm income), is it really 10%?

The king's acumen feathers are only worth 2% each (vs. a regular governor 10% each). But if a Steward king really gives a full 10%, it's as if he has TEN feathers for farms -- or if a Magnificent Steward, THIRTY -- relative to the way his other feathers are divided by 5, as it were. The same could be said for trader virtues.

Can anyone confirm that the king's virtues impact with the full percent stated?

from my observations it is +10% to farm income, I noticed when my great steward king died and his son took his place(who was only one acumen less) my income from farms dropped a fair bit. Was playing as the HRE so no trade, all income from farms

Thanks Armchair... right, I usually have a lot of trade, so it wouldn't be as noticeable (trade goes up and down a lot). Thanks

Just for the record... I have had games with Steward, Great Steward, and Magnificent Steward, as well as Trader...

In the Economics 101 thread, I was puzzled by how Steward gave a 9.1% increase. It now makes perfect sense.

Checking values before and after the new virtue show that the King does give a 'full' 10% ... but it's only 10% added to his modifier. In other words, just like how a 40% farm isn't 1.2 times the 20% farm, it just adds the same 20% to the base... the same goes for these virtues.

My King had 5 acumen feathers, each of which gives a 2% bonus. So the king's modifier before Steward was 1.10. With Steward, it became 1.20. And 1.2/1.1= 1.091, an apparent increase of 9.1% - which is exactly what I saw.

Thus with e.g. a 5-acumen king (modifier 1.1),

Steward 'adds' 9.1% (1.2/1.1)
Great Steward adds 8.3% (1.3/1.2)
Magnificent Steward adds 7.7% (1.4/1.3)

They are all adding 10% of the base value.

Trader actually averaged 9.4% (N=8 provinces), not 9.1%, but this is probably because there's a lot more rounding at work with Trade - The total trade for a province is made from e.g. 20 small trades added up, each of which was rounded. So there's a little more variability to trading, but Trader seems to use the same add 10% to base value that Steward does.

How do you get the trader VnV? I've NEVER gotten it.

I think its luck. I only got it on governers.

By building enough mines.

i think there was a thread about this awhile back. the quickest way is to keep building/destroying mines. IIRC you need 8-10 mines to get the Trader virtue. Best if you have a province with salt, since salt mines are so cheap.

just to add to motorhead, do this in a noncritical province.

also, try to pile all your heirs or at least crown prince in there as he can also benefit from the virtue.

it's possibel to get say both trader and magnificent trader if he first got one as the heir and later as the king.

same thing with steward and builder.

this requires a lot of shuffling units aroudn but getting your heirs to attend as many building inaugurations etc. seems to improve them.

dont' know about govs but couldn't hurt.

according to kristaps IIRC, moving units around also help prevent bad vices and may get educated more often.

yeah building lots of mines gets the trader virtue, I have found that it is easy for the hugarians to get this virtue, as their starting area is loaded with mines. Thats why as the Italians I often take out the hungarians, they dont have many ports so you wont lose much trade but the ability to get the trader virtue is a big boon.

i think sardinia has a mine and use it for this purpose often as the Italians are almost exclusively traders.
