Just joined this site and game and I'm finishing my first campaign... My Irish vs Mercians in an all out war.

But I keep reading about mod or modding. What is it?

Well, the Mod's on the site run things. It stands for moderators. But I'm guessing you're refering to Mods, rather than mods...if that makes sense.

A mod in the TW sense is when a user modifys, or adds to, the game files, to change or enhance the experience. This can involve new campaign maps, new units, and new settings. I would advise that you check out the dungeon, to find out more about mods.

Hi there http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif
Welcome to the Org You've come to the right place for all yor questions concerning this wonderful game.
A mod is short for modification of the game. You can add new factions, and many other things to increase the game enjoyment and replayability. I am not a great modder but there are several good guys here who'd help youin case you decide you want to try it.

...and there are sooooo many good mods that I don't even start mentioning them all in this thread... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

Perhaps you can take a look in The Dungeon (The Engineers Guild), to find out which mod suits you best.

Welcome to the ORG http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Let's see... Mod/modding is a bastardisation of modify/modification I believe. While the latter might have its roots in modere http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-book2.gif

Ahem...Sorry. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Basically, it's modyfying certain aspects of the game to your liking; varies from changing a couple minor things here and there to adding totally new campaigns/units/gameplay values etc.

It's a fun thing but potentially the most frustrating business as well. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-confused.gif

I can't think computer gaming without modding anymore. You see? It's addictive too. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-blush.gif

and some recomended mods are...... napoleon total war, hellenistic total war, Medieval Total War (commenly known as MEdMod), other mods include middle earth total war, the reconquista (for Multiplayer only i believe) as well as many others, most (if not all) of the mods i just mentioned require a seperate installation of MTW VI for each.
