buying mtw

I'm buying mtw tomorrow, and I'm wondering whether I should buy vikings with it or wait until I've played the basic game first

Well, if Amazon is following the general trend, then the Battle Collection (both together) is 2p cheaper than either vanilla MTW or VI alone.

I say get VI the battle collection package. It is both a good economical choice (See Schrodie's Cat post) and it irons out a few of the minor annoyances that plagued the vanilla copy (being able to arrange your reinforcements for one). My advice to you would be play the basic MTW for a while until you get bored or need something to spice up the game, then go buy VI. I say this because Rome Total War is still a long way off

I started by playing VI - it's less intimidating because the map is smaller and the range of opposing units is easier to get to grips with. So I'd recommend buying both, playing VI once or twice, then moving onto MTW.

Whatever you do, I'm sure you will enjoy it - both games are just fantastic, astonishing, superb.

I was thinking the same as divine wind. I know that w/ VI it would be better, but if it gives me more play time to buy them seperately then that would be a better idea

Buying both is cheaper than one at a time.

buy both and install only one if you so incline and play that until you get bored and install the other.

VI also lets you have aragon as playable and these former minor factions all get GAs.

the new units like Viking Huscarles, Avar Nobles, and Steppe heavy cav are just awesome and available to all factions.
