In the famous Hannibal battle of Cannae, Hannibal's infantries fought a fighting retreat to form a box to trap those Romans, will we be able to do that in RTW too? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-inquisitive.gif
I do'nt think it was so much of a planned retreat. If I'm correct Hannibal put his worst troops in the center knowing the Romans would mow right through them. Thus leaving the core of the Roman line deep into his lines. After turning the Roman flanks away he then turned around and boxed the Romans in. So this tacic should be quite easy to set up but there are risks to doing this. All you have to do is put your best on the flanks and hope all goes to plan

We had a heated debate long time ago, take a look, you'll find all you answers. I was the devil's advocate, and I had a tough time against Hakonarson http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-2thumbsup.gif

Enjoy
Remembering that and one I had over at the com, I will not go into another one here (lets just say I'm on the side of Hakonarson).
But I believe we will not be able to pull off a Cannae. The game engine doesn't seem to be able to calculate unit-push. Thus units will not get pushed back on a whole. And it most certainly doesn't look like there is an option to have the men marching backwards.

I disagree, in some of the TC Episodes where the tems have been completely surrounded you can quite easily see the units being squeezed in tighter and tighter byt he surrounding forces...
Pushback should be in there.
Hannibal's victory at cannae is one of those Battle that would be extremely difficult to recreate anyway.

marching backwards, yeah that was i was talking about. Maybe it should only be available to veterans? valor 5 or up. I agree, that option is a must, it will create some mighty interesting tactics http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cheers.gif
