I have seen Med Mod version 4 mentioned. What is it and when is it coming out?
medmod is one of the best mods out there and is very historically accurate and also gives a more challenging game.
the current version is 3.14 and the forthcoming version 4 would include new campaign map with more provinces and many other tweaks. Unfortunately, it seems that Wes is sik lately and hence the release would be delayed

http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif Welcome perris. What took you so long to speak up?
You can consider the MedMod released. Wes just keeps improving it time after time.

MedMod 4: 20 new factions (teutonic order, crusader states,...), new heroes, new map, probably new units.
I expect the beta version to come out in the beginning of june, very end of may

Could anybody give me an overview of what MedMod is like relative to MTW? I'm having to push MTW hard to make it a challenge after all these months, and I hear that MedMod is the best mod. In a nutshell though... why might I enjoy it? A link or two esp. to a review or whatever would be cool. Thanks

Well i'd be typing all day if i tried to give you a run down of everything Wesw has done in Med mod, so i'll try to sum up.
Medmod adds new buildings into the main campaign, new units (a hell of a lot of units) new factions, and better AI. That last one may seem to good to be true but you read it right. No longer will you see boundless peasants and crap archers running around, the AI build priorities have been completely reworked, some buildings take less time while some take more. Crusades take 10 years and 4k to train so the AI doesn't spam the holy land. The Ai fights more often now, War is more rampant with the other factions much more aggressive. Land bridges have been removed, meaning you'll have to have ships to invade Wessex now as it is now there's one land bridge, Nicea to Rhodes, and thats to help if a faction gets stranded with nowhere to go on Rhodes. Then there's the Homeland unit creation.
Homeland Unit creation meaning all of the factions units (all aside from peasantry) can only be created in their Homeland provinces. That means you can't just smash the Spanish in Castile, go in and train AUM. Now you have to train your men at home and ship them to the front, so to speak. Add to that the Ai seems to have a better grasp on trading and doesn't go bankrupt easy medmod improves vastly on MTW.

Thanks I'm taking a look at WesW's site (http://wes.apolyton.net/). Quick question: If I install Medmod, that's all I will be able to play, yes? Or will it show up as a choice - Viking, Early, Middle, Late, Medmod - ? Although it seems easy enough to uninstall, if I want... just wondering if it's a commitment or not.

Medmod is an add-on, not an overwrite. If you install it, you will have 7 choices: viking, early, MM early, high, MM high, late, MM late. The only disagvantage is that Wes renamed some units, and if you play the normal game, it also uses Wes' names.
yep, the descriptions etc. are also changed and it can be disconcerting to be staring at a unit of turkish spearmen and wondering why it says asturian foot and are hardened warriors from the andalusians.
